IMPORTANT: TN governor Rajendra Arlekar has in an official Lok Bhavan release told Vijay and TVK that requisite support has not been established for him to be sworn in. Amidst contrasting precedents, one thing is CLEAR: majorities cannot be decided in Lok Bhavan BUT on floor of assembly. So why is Governor keeping Vijay waiting when no one else is staking a claim? Governor is meant to ensure govts are formed, not block their formation after an election!

One of the main reasons the DMK had to be removed from power was its systematic control over public discourse. The party positioned itself as the sole authority on what was morally and politically right, and relied on journalists who claimed to be neutral to spread that view. In practice, this manufactured neutrality often masked a deep alignment with the DMK's own worldview. This allowed the party to present itself not just as one political option, but as the only legitimate and righteous force in Tamil Nadu.

It is very similar to what BJP does in the national level. Rather than engaging the Congress primarily on policy or governance, the BJP often frames it as anti-national, while claiming for itself the exclusive right to define what nationalism truly means. As a result, any opposition risks being portrayed not as a legitimate alternative, but as a betrayal of the nation.

In both cases, the ruling party shifts the ground from healthy competition over ideas to a test of loyalty. The DMK homogenized Tamil Nadu’s outlook by equating dissent with being anti-Tamil. Similarly, the BJP shapes national discourse by linking dissent with being anti-national. Once a party gains control over powerful words like righteousness or nationalism, the opposition finds itself constantly defending its loyalty instead of presenting its own vision. Citizens are left with just one acceptable frame of reference.

Breaking this kind of narrative monopoly matters deeply. It is not about swapping one dominant party for another, but about restoring a genuinely pluralistic public sphere. No party should mistake its own version of righteousness or nationalism for universal truth.

In this context, the fact that Vijay does not come with a hardline stance feels particularly welcome. Tamil Nadu needs fluidity more than anything right now. The space for ideas to evolve, for dialogue to remain open, and for politics to adapt without rigid ideological walls can make a real difference. That flexibility could help prevent any new player from repeating the old pattern of narrative control.
Democracy thrives when different voices can debate ideas openly, without any side acting as both player and referee.

One of the main reasons DMK has been pushed to the sidelines far often in assembly elections is because of their condescending and pompous attitude of constantly branding anyone who doesn't vote for them as backward, irrational, or unprogressive. And even after today's results, they are still repeating the same narrative.
