I was there the night when the Rodney King verdict came out in 1992 and none of us inside had any idea what was going on all around us but we beat Portland in overtime followed by a scary ride home.

The only thing I agree with is that you shouldn’t have waded into this…

Take a look at how many times he struck out. (21.7 Ks per season. He played 20 seasons.)

His batting average with two strikes? He hit .302. Second place in that category? Boggs, who hit .262. In ‘94, the year he hit .394, his batting average with two strikes was .397.

His batting average against HOF pitchers? .331 in 541 plate appearances.

He won 8 batting titles and hit above .350 seven times. He hit .350 or higher in five-straight seasons. 🤯

He had 45 4-hit games (or more). He once had six hits against the Giants. Oh by the way, he only had 34 games in which he struck out twice.

He only struck out three times in one game…ready for this? Once! In 2,440 games and 9,288 at bats!!! Once!

In his 20 seasons, the only time he hit below .300 was his rookie year (he hit .289).

To quote one article: “From 1993 to 1997, his best five-year stretch, when he won four batting titles, Gwynn hit .368, a mark that was more than 30 points ahead of the next closest batter, Mike Piazza (.337).”

And another: “During his career, Gwynn won batting titles by 32 points (1987), 30 points (1984), 28 points (1994), 22 points (1995), and 17 points (1996).”

Gwynn's career average of .338 means he could’ve gone 0 for 1,183 at-bats to fall under .300. That’s insanity.

“Gwynn hit .400 for a stretch as long as a season: from July 3, 1993 to May 9, 1995, he batted .403 over a 179-game stretch.” Also insanity.

He played in nine World Series games. He hit .371.

I’ll skip the ridiculousness of his numbers against the Braves HOF trio but here’s a visual that helps.
