Weaponising @scotgov STL licensing to remove over 98% of city tenement-based self catering clears the way for the 320-bed Hyatt Hotel in 2025.

The new Hyatt is in a prime position to provide accomodation to the EICC being only 300 meters away. The EICC.. wait for it.. is owned by Edinburgh Council and generates £12M revenue per year through conferences.

Is it the expectation of the @Scotgov that STL licensing legislation is to be used to cull private enterprise and enable councils to indulge in their own replacement revenue raising projects?

Perhaps the funds for the Hyatt build could have been diverted to make the councils 1,500 empty council houses ready for the 3,000 homeless households?

The legislation itself is fundamentally flawed. Just one example is the legislative interpretation leading to confusion among councils as to whether the licence is transferable. It is the detail of the legislation that is anti-business and anti-enterprise culture.

Looks like there is a national boycott of the @scotgov STL licensing legislation with 84% of self catering and B&B not applying for a license due to cost, complexity or high chance of rejection.

Scottish Government fail to acknowledge multiple issues with the scheme and are failing to recognise the need to revise the legislation urgently - despite low application rates and even lower levels of licenses granted.

Today the leader of Edinburgh City Council @cllrcammyday wants to rightly pause the STL licensing scheme.

With woefully low application levels, 2 permanent secondary lets approved, cost recovery basis fees upto £5869, and an expected self catering closedown of 80% he can see this scheme is not working in its current form.

Even the architect of @thesnp Economic Prospectus Andrew Wilson can see the economic damage ahead.

The sector wants to pause also and is ready to engage to get sensible proportionate regulation in place that supports the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 economy.
