There are over 20 ethnic groups in Iran that oppose the regime. The Basij, which is the crowd control division of the IRGC needed to be extracted from the cities, before any campaign was launched. After the cities were devoid of the thugs killing protestors indiscriminately, people could have easily taken over government institutions.
Now, In order to accomplish that outcome, an effort should’ve been made to arm the ethnics group in the south and create a buffer zone , south of the country before any aerial campaign was launched.
Talks about a ground force now, is way too late, and unfortunately the way we have treated some of the ethnic groups (especially the Kurds), has added to the complication.
US military strategy was a success from a strategic perspective, but failed gravely from a tactical perspective and this is why we are where we are today.

The only hope Iran has is to pull the IRGC and Basij militias out of the cities, by orchestrating a border uprising through the Kurds, Pashtoos and other ethnic groups. That’s when the people in the cities can over power the much thinner regime forces. It may turn into a civil war, but one with much more depleted regime forces.
But that takes planning, staging and cooperation from countries like Turkey and Gulf states.
Not this hap hazard aerial assault, commanded by the Israeli military ignoring CentCom and US objectives.

The only way to circumvent 1 million IRGC and Basij Militias from killing people in the streets, is to pull them south of the country with a ground force of multinational nature. That’s when people can take over the regime.
An aerial assault will never result in change.
A buffer zone south of the country by a multinational force will not only do that, but it will also protect the Strait of Hormuz by buffering regime forces from controlling it.
Yes, a major undertaking but the only way to effect change.

By the way, many people in the US (supporters and opposition alike) are giving him credit for Europes increased military budgets. That was not his intent.
