He searched an entire kingdom, but one moment of impatience changed history forever.

Long before the famous Jagannath Temple stood in Puri, there lived Maharaja Indradyumna of Avanti. His greatest desire was to behold the highest manifestation of Bhagavan Vishnu on Earth: the mysterious deity known as Nila Madhava.

After searching far and wide, the king's priest, Vidyapati, discovered Nila Madhava hidden deep within the forests of ancient Odra (present-day Odisha), where the tribal chief Biswabasu worshipped Bhagavan in secret with unwavering devotion.

When the king finally arrived, Nila Madhava had disappeared. That night, Bhagavan appeared to him in a dream.

"You will no longer find me as Nila Madhava. Go to the shores of Puri. A sacred log bearing my divine symbols will emerge from the ocean. There I shall manifest as Daru-Brahma, the Supreme Reality revealed in sacred wood."

Soon, a fragrant log marked with the conch, discus, mace, and lotus washed ashore. Yet no craftsman could carve it.

Then an elderly carpenter appeared. Unknown to everyone, he was Vishwakarma, the divine architect, disguised as a human. He agreed to carve the sacred forms under one condition: no one could open the door for twenty-one days.

The king agreed. For fourteen days, the sound of carving echoed through the temple. Then came silence.

Fearing the old carpenter had died, the queen urged the king to open the door. Overcome with concern, King Indradyumna broke his promise. Inside, the carpenter had vanished.

Standing before them were the extraordinary forms of Jagannatha, Balabhadra, Subhadra, and Sudarshana unlike any deities the world had ever seen. They had no distinct hands or feet, only immense eyes that seemed to embrace all creation. The king was heartbroken, believing his impatience had interrupted the divine work. But that night, Jagannatha appeared to him once again.

"This is not an unfinished form. This is the form I have chosen."

Jagannatha revealed that the Infinite cannot be confined to ordinary human anatomy. Without hands, Bhagavan embraces the entire universe. Without feet, Bhagavan reaches every devotee. With boundless eyes, Bhagavan watches over all beings. These forms express the Upanishadic truth that the Supreme transcends all physical limitations while remaining present everywhere.

These are not merely statues. They are Daru-Brahma, the Supreme manifest in sacred wood. Brahma himself performed the consecration, and Maharaja Indradyumna established the great temple at Purushottama Kshetra, now known as Puri.

To this day, millions gather for Ratha Yatra to behold Jagannatha, Balabhadra, Subhadra, and Sudarshana as they journey among the people. What appears simple at first glance is, in Hindu tradition, one of the most profound expressions of the Divine, reminding us that God is both beyond all form and lovingly present in every corner of creation.

The 1993 Mumbai bombings which killed 267 Indians were an act of war - planned and resourced by Lt Gen Javed Nasir, then DG-ISI, in cahoots with his political masters.
The aim was to paralyse Mumbai in three stages-
a) serial bombings of VAs and VPs- stock exchange, hotels, airport.
b) gunmen storming govt buildings and killing elected officials.
c) restart communal riots where ISI-supplied Type-56 rifles and grenades were distributed in parts of the city.
The ISI used Dawood Ibrahim’s gang as foot soldiers.
The bigger tragedy of 1993 - the worst act of urban terror until 9/11- was that it was seen as a law and order problem - a communal problem- an underworld problem- books and stories were written about it by crime reporters who had spent their whole lives writing about Dawood.
This is also the trouble with X threads like this that don’t see the bigger picture- 1993 was the Pak Army’s first attack on India’s economic hub…it went unpunished and that opened the city up to two more major strikes by the Pak Army- in 2006 and 2008- killing over 350 more Mumbaikars…

This is the daughter of Deepak Thakur, a soldier who was lynched after being accused of beadbi simply because he had gone to drink water. If people choose to remain unaware of such incidents, or acknowledge only those facts that suit their preferred narrative, no amount of evidence will help.
I am not giving a clean chit to the Congress, Indira Gandhi, or Sanjay Gandhi. They deserve scrutiny for what happened in Punjab and 1984 under their rule . But I will not become selectively blind to incidents that have occurred in more recent times just because they are inconvenient to someone's politics.

Two days ago, a video circulated on social media showing doodh-daatas in Maharashtra spilling their milk after a rumor of an FDA raid spread.

I wondered what they could have adulterated the milk with to make them get rid of it in such a panic over a mere rumor. I initially thought it might just be water or milk powder, but there had to be more to it.

Yesterday, the Maharashtra FDA uncovered a massive synthetic milk racket, with an estimated 2.3 crore liters of fake milk manufactured using detergent powder and chemicals like sodium bicarbonate.

By now, you probably have a clear idea of how much these ann-daatas, doodh-daatas, and fal-sabzi-daatas truly care about your health. That's why it's our responsibility to support every policy made that apparently benefits these daatas, even if it means putting ethanol in your non-compliant car. Don't complain. Just do it. Long live daatas.

PAKISTAN: Zubair Shah Agha, a core committee member of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), was arbitrarily detained on 28 June after attending a press conference organized by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in Quetta on the sentencing of Mahrang Baloch.

He has since been held in administrative detention under section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO). Zubair Agha's detention is the latest in a growing pattern of Pakistani authorities using administrative detention powers to arbitrarily deprive activists, journalists and human rights defenders of their liberty. Similar to Zubair, Syed Bibi Baloch was taken into administrative detention under MPO on 1 July in Turbat, Balochistan after a peaceful protest was announced regarding Mahrang’s sentencing. On 20 June, journalist Ahmad Farhad was also detained under MPO in Bagh, Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, where he remains in custody.

Pakistani authorities must immediately release Zubair Shah Agha, Syed Bibi Baloch and Ahmad Farhad, and end the misuse of administrative detention laws to suppress peaceful dissent and uphold the rights to liberty, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.
