When actor Benjamin Cléry rose to his feet with director Richard Linklater and the rest of the band from Nouvelle Vague to receive their standing ovation at the conclusion of the film's premiere earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival who should rush up to congratulate him but Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino was a close friend of the late Pierre Rissient whom Cléry reincarnated in the film shown to a packed house last night at @Filmhouse. Cléry admitted that the encounter was all part of his living the dream as he gave the inside track as part of a lively post-film Q&A on what it was like to go back in time to the chaotic shooting of the classic Breathless. @ifecosse@IFParis@FrFilmFestUK@ConsulFranceUK@cgfEdimbourg@afglasgow@glasgowfilm@EyeForFilm@ifru_london@Festival_Cannes

THUNDEROUS applause greeted the finale of the screening of the silent classic Fantômas at @ifecosse last night when musicians Jane Gardner and Caroline Salmon gave a memorable world premiere rendition of their especially composed new score. The audience were enrapt by the master villain's reign of terror across Paris and the synergy between image and live sound. The screening marked part of a French Film Festival UK celebration of the 130th anniversary of the fabled Gaumont Studios. FFF's Sue Harris explained that the company founded in 1895 was as old as cinema itself and she pointed out that Léon Gaumont's secretary Alice Guy became the first pioneering woman to direct a film and was instrumental in the development of the company across the globe. @screenscots@filmhubscotland@FRANCE24@TV5MONDE@Gaumont@EyeForFilm@ifru_london Photography by Pako Mera @PakoMera
