@bluehoodiebaby I was bullied and bored in retail. I was exhausted and harassed my one summer in food service. I’ve seen both work for some people in some contexts, but neither was great for me.
@hpc3 Paul, I’m reading the historian Alan Taylor’s latest book, American Republics. He’s a Pulitzer Prize winner and, amazingly, coming to speak at our parish this fall. He’s giving a talk called “Just say No to Manifest Destiny”!
I’ve been reading about the rise of evangelical churches and the steep decline in mainline churches in America.
In the 1780s and 90s.
I’m not in denial about what is happening to the church today. But I sure am interested in better understanding historical context.
@iateurgoldfish How can you ask that? Okay so you weren’t even alive when they did their best work. What kind of excuse is that? Sheesh. Young people these days!
@mitchellatencio We had a bagpiper lead the guests from the church to the reception, which was on the UC Berkeley campus. As they walked the streets of Berkeley, strangers joined in and it became an impromptu parade!
@caityjo_d @scottagunn Mine said symphony conductor. I don’t read music or play an instrument, so parish priest seems pretty close. But sometimes I think I should have been a botanist or goat farmer. 😌
