29 years ago Today, Lady Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales, died in a car accident in Paris.
These images come from her final official photoshoot taken by photographer Mario Testino in that same year 1997.
I received a flight confirmation for a trip I never booked.
Nairobi to Dubai.
Business class.
Leaving the next morning.
I called the airline.
They confirmed the reservation.
The ticket was paid in cash.
I asked them to cancel it.
They did.
Then the employee asked:
“Are you sure you didn’t book this?”
“Yes.”
“Because your passport number is attached to it.”
I froze.
I hadn’t given anyone my passport information.
The airline canceled the ticket.
I thought that was the end.
Two hours later…
Magnesium is an essential mineral that keeps your muscles, heart, and brain in tip top shape. Sadly, many people don't get enough of it, leading to fatigue, weakness, and even anxiety.
Here are 3 simple ways to naturally boost your magnesium levels:
1. Eat magnesium-rich foods: Incorporate spinach, pumpkin seeds, almonds, dark chocolate and avocados into your diet to fuel your body with this vital mineral.
2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Sufficient hydration supports optimal magnesium absorption, so make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
3. Prioritize self-care: Focus on relaxation, stress reduction, and a balanced lifestyle to enhance overall well-being and magnesium absorption. Stress eats up your magnesium stores.
@DanNetti Well, said Dan! Yes, magnesium is crucial for optimal health. There’s an interesting relationship between magnesium deficiency and the stress/anxiety response. When one is lacking in magnesium, the stress response is a very common symptom.
@LoriShemek if someone is taking a magnesium supplement, the most recommended bioavailable form is magnesium glycinate and 500 mg is recommended daily.
great post Lori !
Dolly Parton says she doesn’t regret turning down Elvis Presley, who wanted to cover her ballad “I Will Always Love You” in the 1970s.
“Elvis loved “I Will Always Love You,” and he wanted to record it,” said Parton in a 2006 CMT interview. “I got the word that he was going to record it, and I was so excited. I told everybody I knew.
The cover was too good to be true after Parton was approached by Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, who demanded that Elvis receive a hefty portion of the publishing rights to the song.
“Now, you know we have a rule that Elvis don’t record anything that we don’t take half the publishing,” said Parker, according to Parton
“And I was really quiet,” said Parton.
“I said, ‘Well, now it’s already been a hit. I wrote it and I’ve already published it, and this is the stuff I’m leaving for my family when I’m dead and gone. That money goes in for stuff for my brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews, so I can’t give up half the publishing,’ and he said ‘Well then, we can’t record it.'”
Parton added, “I guess they thought since they already had it prepared and already had it ready, that I would do it. .. Something in my heart [said] ‘Don’t do that,’ and I just didn’t do it, and they just didn’t do it.”
Turning down Presley, said Parton, broke her heart because she truly wanted to hear him sing her song.
“I said, ‘I’m sorry, but I can’t give you the publishing,” said Parton. “I wanted to hear Elvis sing it, and it broke my heart I cried all night. But I had to keep that copyright in my pocket. You have to take care of your business.
Everybody’s going to use you if they can. These are my songs. They’re like my children. And I expect them to support me when I’m old.”
Though Presley never recorded the song, it still held a special place in his heart. Parton previously shared that his ex-wife Priscilla told her that he sang the song to her when they divorced. “Priscilla told me that when she and Elvis divorced, Elvis sang my song to her,” shared Parton. “That touched me so deeply.”
Dolly Parton stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of a woman whose unwavering spirit has conquered both the music industry and the hearts of millions. 💙

REFLECTION
"My parents were married for 55 years. One morning, my mom was going downstairs to make dad breakfast, she had a heart attack and fell. My father picked her up as best he could and almost dragged her into the truck. At full speed , without respecting traffic lights, he drove her to the hospital. When he arrived, unfortunately she was no longer with us.
During the funeral, my father did not speak; his gaze was lost. He hardly cried.
That night, his children joined him. In an atmosphere of pain and nostalgia, we remembered beautiful anecdotes and he asked my brother, a theologian, to tell him where Mom would be at that moment. My brother began to talk about life after death, and guesses as to how and where she would be.
My father listened carefully. Suddenly he asked us to take him to the cemetery.
Dad!" we replied, "it's 11 at night, we can't go to the cemetery right now!"
He raised his voice, and with a glazed look he said:
"Don't argue with me, please don't argue with the man who just lost his wife of 55 years."
There was a moment of respectful silence, we didn't argue anymore.
We went to the cemetery, we asked the night watchman for permission. With a flashlight we reached the tomb. My father caressed her, prayed and told his children, who watched the scene moved:
"It was 55 years... you know? No one can talk about true love if they have no idea what it's like to share life with a woman."
He paused and wiped his face. "She and I, we were together in that crisis. I changed jobs ..." he continued. "We packed up when we sold the house and moved out of town. We shared the joy of seeing our children finish their careers, we mourned the departure of loved ones side by side, we prayed together in the waiting room of some hospitals, we support each other in pain, we hug each Christmas, and we forgive our mistakes... Children, now it's gone, and I'm happy, do you know why?
Because she left before me.
She didn't have to go through the agony and pain of burying me, of being left alone after my departure. I will be the one to go through that, and I thank God. I love her so much that I wouldn't have liked her to suffer..."
When my father finished speaking, my brothers and I had tears streaming down our faces. We hugged him, and he comforted us, "It's okay, we can go home, it's been a good day."
That night I understood what true love is; It is far from romanticism, it does not have much to do with eroticism, or with sex, rather it is linked to work, to complement, to care and, above all, to the true love that two really committed people profess ".
Peace in your hearts.
