I joined @TsedaleLemma to discuss the ongoing war in the Amhara Region, the resulting atrocities and humanitarian crisis, as well as the recent scandal involving a fabricated peace deal attributed to @_AfricanUnion and @IGADsecretariat.

I’m happy to announce the launch of “The Standard Signal”, my maiden podcast episode featuring a compelling conversation with Semhal Meles on the escalating war narratives between the central and Tigray governments, and the broader political economy that sustains Ethiopia’s recurring cycles of violence.
Your comments are comments!
Also, my amazing team of producers are working hard to fix the audio challenges.

The #Karrayyu_Oromo have an ancient proverb: “Balaa bakka hin waraannetti luqqifachuun fiddu.”
It is a proverb used to warn against the dangers of “drawing your sword where there is no war.”
The guest for The Standard Signal Ep. 02 was Jawar Mohammed, with whom I discussed his warning in which he invoked the above Karrayyu Oromo proverb to frame Ethiopia’s ruling elites’ escalating rhetoric on “sovereign access” to the Red Sea.
We explored difficult questions, such as, what happens when words outpace reality? Can propaganda become a self-fulfilling prophecy? And is another wave of nationalism enough to deliver Ethiopia access to the Red Sea?

Just to put this in context: #Canadian and #Chinese mining companies are to begin extracting #Tigray's gold while the war-battered indigenous population remain blocked from accessing and benefiting from their own resources.
Where have we seen this before?
"Freed slaves were banned from celebrating their own freedom...so they scraped together $1,000 to buy land and celebrate Juneteenth."

Obviously PFDJ supporters being trash isn’t anything new. But the way yall are completely controlled by Dictator Isiais is impressive, yall can really switch your whole POV, talking points, feelings on a dime.
The emerging reality now more openly visible is a potential division of Ethiopia along ethno-linguistic lines, primarily between the Cushitic and Semitic groups, essentially separating Northern and Southern Ethiopia. Unless a peaceful and inclusive resolution is reached, there is a growing risk of ethnic strife.
The expansionist stance adopted by some leaders within the Oromia region, particularly those aligned with the Oromuma ideology, appears uncompromising in its ambitions. If this trajectory continues unaddressed, the prospect of a civil war becomes increasingly likely! #Ethiopia
@african_stream Y’all weak af for trying to mislead the people into thinking #Eritrea under Isaias Afwerki is not a fascist state with zero freedoms for the #Eritrea/n people living there.
Wake up African goverments you can not let these mining companies destroy our livelihood.
Ugandans listen what happened to Zambians.
Be vigilant and fight for your natural resources .
our goverments are corrupt and do not care of these people destroy us.
Until all of Sudan is free, none of Sudan is truly free. Since the start of the war, my ancestral home in Al Fashir has been bombed twice by the RSF. It’s hard to describe what we Darfuris feel as the horrors of genocide we’ve long been familiar with unfold across all of Sudan.
@BigBroLGND The short answer as to why a war is brewing is because #Eritrea and #Ethiopia both are led by sellouts who do not have the morality, virtue and courage to do what’s in the best interest of their respective peoples.
