@StatisticUrban ... That's not how to read this, this is sentiment.
Democrats are preparing for tariffs and what they believe to be economic hardship.
Republicans believe things are about to get better.
See how the sentiments changed?
@defundukraine76@_AthleticMuscle You're a very sad, pathetic person. So filled with hate that you rage at your computer screen. Go outside and touch grass, South Carolina is still nice out right now.
@defundukraine76@_AthleticMuscle @ContingencyI @DarthPutinKGB Why does that even matter? You can't control where you are born. There are wonderful people born in every country and scum born in every country.
@defundukraine76 I doubt you even know what Marxism is, being uneducated and all. "Educational Marxism" doesn't make sense as a term. Do teachers own the educational institutions? No. You're literally just using a scary word you don't understand.
@_AthleticMuscle@defundukraine76 @ContingencyI @DarthPutinKGB Sorry you met one of America's bottom feeders. I promise we aren't all like that. Many of us cherish our friendship with the British and value their support in upholding the liberal world order.
Unfortunately, the bottom feeders are the majority right now.
@Being_detached@carlquintanilla@X No one serious says the "vast majority of US citizens are stupid," but statistically half the country is on the lower half of the bell curve and, again statistically, those are the voters that elected Trump.
@SamuriDotCom@JohnTho50423432@JimGibson09 @axobull @JakeWallinger bailout instead of downsizing or removing unprofitable components of the businesses, both could increase efficiency and profitability and retain the company.
2) Assuming static growth in other companies that would have picked up the assets or investments.
@SamuriDotCom@JohnTho50423432@JimGibson09 @axobull @JakeWallinger Not sure why you think I don't want an auto industry. I'm the one arguing to improve it not encourage it to stagnate.
Idk what you mean by "they" and using all caps for magnitudes is childish.
Two false assumptions behind your argument:
1) We lose all value without the
@SamuriDotCom@JohnTho50423432@JimGibson09 @axobull @JakeWallinger Oh, right! Cherry-picking anecdotal evidence is why we should transfer public wealth to give golden parachutes to the executives of unprofitable businesses!! Good point!
It's not like we'll have to use tariffs to save those businesses again in 15 years, meanwhile, we pay more.
@JohnTho50423432@JimGibson09 @axobull @JakeWallinger I'm happy GM is profitable again, but we can't be certain that when they sold their assets it didn't become more productive in much efficient companies.
There is a lot of existing literature on protectionist tariffs, I don't think this is the forum for that. Try wikipedia.
@JohnTho50423432@JimGibson09 @axobull @JakeWallinger If your fundamental concern is the workers, which is noble btw, then the money should have been spent on helping them directly. A much better investment.
It should not have been spent bailing out unprofitable businesses where it gets largely pocketed by CEOs and ownership.
@JohnTho50423432@JimGibson09 @axobull @JakeWallinger Higher labor costs are worth it if the productivity per worker goes up, not if you encourage a lack of productivity growth.
@JohnTho50423432@JimGibson09 @axobull @JakeWallinger Certainly not if we hold back innovation. Your argument is to keep old, bloated ways of doing things for jobs, that just kicks the can down the road and now China will win anyway and we lose the jobs regardless or we become protectionist and consumers foot the bill. Lose-lose
@JohnTho50423432@JimGibson09 @axobull @JakeWallinger Rivian, Tesla, Lucid, Polestar and more. There are so many new companies that workers can transition to without reskilling, we don't need to keep non-profit able businesses alive because of jobs. The jobs will be created or the workers need to adapt.
Lol @ the tariff comment
