I’m sad about this. Not because this person isn’t asking a normal question, but because younger kids don’t know what it was like before & their question is valid. It’s a mind fuck to be in a mall and also on sacred ground.
fresh beat, fresh manicure, in a hotel, a ring light set up while you film yourself peddling propaganda about how you’re scared for your life with perfect angle, while Palestinians are filming surrounded by bodies, their children’s body parts in bags, under rubble and that’s when they can actually access the internet, you people are actually INSANE and sick
Things that can be dangerous in a small town:
Being Black or a person of color
Being LGBTQ
Being a religious minority
Being a (non white) immigrant
Not looking like everyone else
Being different
I know because I grew up in a small town. It's so small it was a dry town that didn't allow sale of alcohol until that was overturned on a referendum in the 2020 election.
There were several times that hate symbols were spray painted on people's cars, on buildings, and on the local high school.
My parents were church goers. There were people at church who would talk to my white stepdad, but not me or my mom.
I now live in one of the most diverse cities in the US, and I love that.
I feel safer.
When I've had to drive through small towns in rural areas, I see Confederate flags, Trump signs, and I don't feel safe. Friends and coworkers have shared similar feelings.
Filming a music video at the site of a lynching, for a song called "Try that in a small town" is an intentional insult and warning to stay out if you don't "fit in".
We see you.
The dumbest thing about this is how every other social platform WISHES they created a unique and renowned verb like "Tweet" or "Retweet" - that kind of brand recognition is near impossible to replicate intentionally
Let's make a few things clear:
- I support the 2nd Amendment
- I support your right to bear arms in the United States
- I support your right to protect yourself & your family and to hunt.
- I support all of your rights as an American citizen
- I DON'T support your non-existent right to purchase and use ANY AND ALL arms.
- I DON'T support your non-existent right to buy a gun without ANY regulations at all.
Sensible regulation can work. In fact we already have regulations that work and we already ban certain arms.
Let's work together on commonsense reforms.
What do you say?
BREAKING: The Texas Senate just passed a bill that would compel every single public school classroom in the state to display a copy of the Ten Commandments. Additionally, a bill was passed to set aside time during the day for prayer and reading the Bible.
You might be thinking "They can't do that."
You might be thinking "That's unconstitutional."
Well it is, but they did it, despite the fact that a Supreme Court verdict back in 1980, Stone v. Graham, determined that it violated the Establishment Clause of the Constitution when Kentucky tried the exact same thing.
Conservative Republicans have been steadily chipping away at the norms and laws that protect our nation's most vulnerable citizens, like how they did away with crucial segment from the Voting Rights Act, and how they just overturned Roe v Wade.
Laws like this will negatively impact upon students who do not share the same religious beliefs as the majority of students, and could even stigmatize them as lesser members of the student body.
Drop a 💙 if you agree religion must be kept out of our public schools.
