Located atop Mount Corcovado. It was completed in 1931 after nine years of construction, the monument stands 98 feet (30 meters) tall, with a 26-foot (8-meter) pedestal, reaching a total height of 125 feet (38 meters). Its arms stretch 92 feet (28 meters) wide, and the structure weighs approximately 635 metric tons.

Designed by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and French sculptor Paul Landowski, the statue is constructed from reinforced concrete clad in thousands of triangular soapstone tiles. It was commissioned by the Roman Catholic archdiocese to combat post-World War I secularism and serve as a symbol of faith.
