A dark, dystopian world is approaching fast — while we’re asleep. Our generation risks going down in history as the last one that had freedoms — and allowed them to be taken away.

We’ve been fed a lie.

We’ve been made to believe that the greatest fight of our generation is to destroy everything our forefathers left us: tradition, privacy, sovereignty, the free market, and free speech.

By betraying the legacy of our ancestors, we’ve set ourselves on a path toward self-destruction — moral, intellectual, economic, and ultimately biological.

The European Commission proposes a new surveillance tool supposed to help in the fight against child abuse depictions and grooming online: the so called #chatControl. Under this proposal, all messages, photos and videos that you send via messenger services such as WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal, would be scanned for that kind of content, even bypassing encryption. All civilians would be placed under general suspicion and monitored. The risk of misuse by the authorities is enormous. Because what was claimed to help in the fight against child abuse depictions and cybergrooming can quickly be extended onto other contexts: to copyright infringements, to hate speech and fakenews, potentially even to undesirable opinions. This is an attack on our fundamental rights in the digital space. It has nothing to do with European values.
