This episode of My Happy Marriage broke some anime tropes for me. Honestly I think it was one of the best episodes of anime this year. Kudo and Miyo are such a joy and seeing their development in this anime is really something special. #MyHappyMarriage
This painting is titled “Wheatfield with Crows ” and it was the last painting of Vincent Van Gogh. Stay for a few minutes, his story is worth a read.
The man failed at everything he pursued in life, trying all kinds of jobs. He was let go from every position, which made him view himself as an utter failure. Eventually, his mental health deteriorated. He was in his late 20s when he was admitted to an asylum.
His brother Theo, an art dealer, adored him and supported him financially, especially since Vincent’s paintings weren’t selling at all. In a way, he believed in his brother when no one else did. They kept trying to make sales…but the paintings just wouldn’t sell.
Vincent’s last painting was wheatfields with crows. He wrote to Theo— telling him how much the wheat fields remind him of his loneliness. Back in the day drawing crows was associated with death and that ended being true for Vincent.
In his late 30s, Vincent Van Gogh ended his life with a bullet…and Theo died just six months later. They are buried side by side.
Vincent spent his life believing he was a failure, yet today, his works are monumental— in their influence and price both.
His life story speaks to the human condition, the fragility of life, pursuit of passion, and the unpredictable nature of recognition and success.
If only he could see his ‘worth’ today…
