Nigerian lawmakers focusing on imposing a "10-year prison sentence and N5 million fine" for anyone who refuses to recite the national anthem is a clear case of misplaced priority and the funniest to me . The country is facing serious economic challenges, with high unemployment and widespread poverty among many other pressing issues . Instead of addressing these issues, they are concerned with something as trivial as the national anthem. In terms of health care, people are affected daily due to lack of access to quality healthcare. Rather than improving hospitals and making healthcare accessible to all, they're preoccupied with anthem recitation which has no bearing on the life of a common in Lagos, Onitsha or Kano.

Corruption is another major issue crippling the nation, yet there are no strict punishments for those who loot public funds. Instead of focusing on tackling corruption, which would have a significant impact on the country, they choose to penalize those who don't recite the anthem. Electricity is another area of concern, with most parts of the country suffering from constant power outages that affect businesses and daily life. Lawmakers should be addressing these issues, but instead, they're worried about enforcing anthem recitation.

The level of hardship in the country is overwhelming, with inflation and the high cost of living making life difficult for the average Nigerian. Lawmakers should be focusing on policies that reduce this hardship, but instead, they are trying to impose harsh penalties for something as minor as not reciting the national anthem. This clearly shows that their priorities are misplaced.
