Couple arrested in Moradabad,India, for forcing a Hindu woman to recite the Kalma at gunpoint.

Moradabad- A Hindu woman, a resident of a neighborhood in the Majhola area, has been living apart from her husband for about five years.

Three years ago, she met a Muslim woman Mehnam Begum—the wife of Sultan Salauddin, who lived in the same neighborhood—and the two became friends.

The accused Mehnam Begum gained the woman's trust and took her to her home, where her husband Sultan Salauddin, a Maulvi, and two others were already present.

The accused held her captive, and Salauddin held a gun at the woman’s head, forced her to convert using a licensed pistol.
The Maulvi made her recite the Kalma.

After the forceful conversion, Salauddin began pressuring the woman to marry him (Nikah); however, when she resisted, the Maulvi did not solemnize the marriage.

Subsequently, she was held captive, and Sultan Salauddin, subjected her to obscene acts and molestation. Even after she managed to escape, the accused threatened to kill her if they encountered her again.

On Saturday, the police arrested the accused couple Sultan Salauddin and Mehnam Begum and sent them to jail after producing them in court.

A police team is actively searching for the other accused individuals. The police have initiated the process to have the pistol license revoked.
