This account stans space, science, Scalia, and Taylor Swift. (And rugby, writing, and other cool things. You’ll catch on.) Of no tribe/clique: Not voting for your candidate, don’t care about your issue. My sole obligation is to speak truth as I—to the best of my ability—see it.
@Kripto_Jo There are things I appreciate about Japan, but there is also so much that I find alien and irreconcilable and entirely outside my sympathy. As I have learned more about Japanese history generally and the pacific war particularly, this tension has increased.
@SteveSkojec Parses straightforwardly for me. He’s telling the self-styled Catholics in our government to repent, resign, and go the fuck to confession. He wouldn’t have said it more clearly if he’d said it my way and tagged Rubio by name.
@annbauerwriter@MitchBerg_Radio Better that they find out early in a safe, controlled space than go through life thinking they’re a big deal only to learn the hard way at a critical moment.
@Namisai_mikane I have a similar reaction when they’re described as a “Japanese rock band”— technically correct but it can be taken to say that they’re a band playing Japanese rock, versus a Japanese band playing rock. Achieving world domination means breaking out of the “j-rock ghetto.”
We used to have “chickenhawks”; people who are hawkish unless there was any consequences, especially to themselves. Now we have “war bros”; men—and it is almost entirely men—who are against “war”but for “strikes” so long as the strike has a bombastic, testosterish codename.
@MsMelChen This is a strong argument that should’ve been made on the floors of the US Congress when the president came to Congress for a declaration of war. But that didn’t happen. So this may be a good war and it may be a necessary war, but it is now irreparably tainted as an illegal war.
@whignewtons My hero, Justice Scalia, thought the whole thing beneath him. He was only wrong insofar as to say it was beneath him was to imply the existence of someone worthwhile whom it wasn’t beneath. At that is categorically false. Kavanaugh is a sniveling worm but it’s beneath even him.
