A THEORY ABOUT THE JxJ LORE: WHAT IF DREAMSCAPE ISN'T A NEW STORY?

Hi everyone! So, this is purely my imagination and my own interpretation of the JxJ lore. I don't have evidence proving any of this, so please take it as a theory rather than an actual explanation of the storyline.

Also, this theory will probably bleed into shipping territory at some points, so if that's not your thing, please be aware of that before reading. I'm not trying to claim that any of this is canon. I'm just connecting things that I personally find interesting.

That being said...

I think there might be something very interesting going on with THIS MAN and DREAMSCAPE.

First, let's talk about the actual THIS MAN lore

Before getting into my theory, I think it's important to explain the original story of THIS MAN, especially because not everyone has listened to the full audiobook.

THIS MAN was inspired by the urban legend of a mysterious man who appears in people's dreams, but JEONGHAN X WONWOO turned that premise into their own original story. The album isn't simply about two mysterious men appearing in dreams. It establishes an entire world built around dreams, reality, memory, loss, and the boundary between the two.

The audiobook introduces two different figures, both connected to the same dream world.

JEONGHAN — The Fugitive

Jeonghan's character is described as a fugitive.

He has lost someone precious to him, and rather than accepting that loss in reality, he escapes into a world of dreams that he creates himself.

Inside this dream world, nothing has ever been lost.

He can recreate the happiest day of his life and experience it over and over again. He creates a version of the person he lost, referred to as A ,and carefully reconstructs them from his memories.

He remembers details such as A's eyelashes, nose, earrings, lips, and other features. He uses the dreams and tears of other people as material to create this dream world and recreate A.

For Jeonghan, this world initially seems almost perfect.

Because as long as A exists there, his loss has never truly happened.

But there is one thing he cannot stop.

Time.

The dream is powered by memories of the past, but memories inevitably fade. As time passes, the memories Jeonghan is desperately trying to preserve begin to deteriorate.

And eventually, something terrifying happens.

Jeonghan can no longer remember A's face.

A's features become distorted and mixed together until the face no longer resembles the person he remembers.

Jeonghan knows that something is wrong, but he cannot accept it.

So he covers A's face with a white cloth.

In other words, instead of confronting the fact that his memory is disappearing, he hides the evidence of it.

He can still see A.

He can still hold A's hand.

He can still look into A's eyes.

As long as the face remains covered, he can pretend that nothing has changed.

But eventually, A disappears from the dream world.

And this is where Jeonghan's role changes.

He no longer stays inside the dream he created.

He begins entering other people's dreams, searching for A.

He moves through the dreams connected to the city, looking for the person he lost and trying to recover the distorted image of A.

His goal becomes more than simply finding A.

He wants to make the dream world tangible.

He wants to turn the impossible back into reality.

Because somewhere inside him, he still believes that what was lost can be restored.

WONWOO — The Observer of the City

Wonwoo's character is introduced very differently.

He is the observer of the city.

He lives among the people without being noticed, watching over them.

Every night, he finds people who have difficulty sleeping or who wander through shallow dreams and gives them a peaceful, blissful sleep.

He walks through the city and through the dreams of its inhabitants, observing their desires, sadness, happiness, and everything they experience while dreaming.

Most people forget seeing him after they wake up.
