Reminded:
1) This life is not all there is.
2) Being "alive" is more than just breathing & heartbeats.
3) God is still sovereign.
4) Many ppl are outside of Christ in spiritual darkness & fear.
5) Ppl ALL need to understand their intrinsic value as image bearers of God.
Quote tweet this with something you have learned, or were intensely reminded of, during the hardships of 2020 that will leave a lifelong impression on you:
(1) The local church is vital to my Christian faith. (2) Basic goods, like friendship, are valuable for their own sake.
@jasonkovacs What I've experienced is that if someone has a light touch & understands I need a lot of separate space/solitude, it works best. That's how I'd define someone "staying with me" - accepting how I'm shaped & being alongside me in light of that. But not constantly bearing in on me.
The blood of Christ is of infinite worth, but it was not poured out as an uncertain payment with an uncertain result.
The cross was not God making salvation merely possible and then waiting to see who would make it effective. Christ came with a definite mission, for a definite people, with a definite victory. He said, “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Not for a nameless crowd that may or may not be saved, but for His sheep.
This is the language of Scripture. He loved the church and gave Himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25). He came to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). He gave His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). His death did not merely open a door and leave salvation hanging in the air. His death actually purchased, cleansed, reconciled, and secured those given to Him by the Father.
“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me” (John 6:37).
That word will matters. Christ did not say they might come if their dead hearts cooperate. He said they will come. The Father gives. The Son receives. The Spirit gives life. The sinner comes because grace has conquered him.
If Christ truly bore the wrath of God for a person, then that person cannot finally perish under the same wrath. God does not demand payment twice. The cross is not a failed transaction. It is finished justice, finished mercy, and finished redemption.
“He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities” (Isaiah 53:5).
Hebrews is clear. “For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified” (Hebrews 10:14). Not tried to perfect. Not hoped to perfect. He has perfected those who are sanctified.
This does not weaken the gospel call. We preach Christ freely to all. Every sinner who comes to Him will be received. But the power of the atonement rests not in man’s decision, but in Christ’s finished work.
The atonement is not vague. It is not wasted. It is not helpless until man activates it. Christ did not die to make redemption a possibility. He died to redeem.
Christ did not attempt salvation.
He accomplished it.
@Heidel_bro1563 Well, there's some I knew I never wanted to see again after having to read them in seminary. 😅 My test is always, will I want to open this again -- ever? If not, then goodbye, because my shelf space is precious.
@JeffreyPerry09 You've been so helpful and encouraging to me without the degree, and I congratulate you on it. I trust in God's goodness that you will continue to be edifying and encouraging to the body of Christ wherever you are.
If you read this, I pray that this gives you hope. Your sin may be great, but God’s grace is greater. Turn away from sin and put your trust in Jesus 🙏🏽
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:8-10
