@Aunindyo2023 Do check MOSPI's website where they have released more details on the comparison as well as methodology changes.

This is a serious economic debate. Let's not politicise it.
@Aunindyo2023 So changing a base year means more changes than just prices. When this base year change was was released on Feb 27, 2026, all of this was explained. It was pointed out that previous year GDP numbers would be lower by 3-4%. Past 2 years quarter-wise GDP was restated...2/3
@Aunindyo2023 Latest GDP estimate uses the revised methodology and should be compared with last year's number using the same methodology. Given how extensively GDP estimation methodology was changed, the old method is no longer relevant. Mr Garg's view point makes no sense to any economist.3/3
@sumanthraman Ref my reply to your earlier post on this subject. I understand that being active on social media means not necessarily cross checking all facts that you post on. But you are a man of science. Do the right thing.
@sumanthraman@SubramanianKri@ndtv He further says that this was revised down to Rs 80 trillion as per the new base. Anyone dealing with numbers will agree that comparisons can only be made on a like to like basis, i.e. using the new base of 2022-23. Anything else is intellectual dishonesty.
@sumanthraman@SubramanianKri@ndtv It is better that economists comment on the subject. While acknowledging that the latest GDP estimate is using the new base of 2022-23, Mr Garg is conveniently quoting the GDP estimate as Rs 86 trillion for Q2FY26 as per old base of 2011-12...1/2
@Krish_nvm_Raw Facts:
1. India shifted to the 2011-12 (not 10-11) base year in 2015 Jan. Both shifts happened under NDA rule.
2. The net impact of downward revision in GDP due to base year change is 3-4%.
3. This and currency depreciation in the last 6 months has caused India to slip to #6.
@_pallavighosh NL : In light of legal developments, evolving public understanding, the #MeToo movement, and the experiences of countless survivors who have come forward, we believe this piece does not meet the values that guide our journalism today, and we have decided to take the piece down.
@_pallavighosh Surprised to see that the link to the Open letter by Ms Sekhri leads not to the letter but a statement by Newslaundry withdrawing the article. Don't know when it was withdrawn, but evidently years later. Could be recent.
@sumanthraman@AxisMyIndia Broadly, would assign a similar probability to the analysis. See my detailed posts. Would have loved to see something more hard-hitting. Expected better. Expectations belied.
@sumanthraman@AxisMyIndia #08 Uniform Swing Assumption - I would accept this if there was an example. In the absence of such example, am unable to counter this.
@sumanthraman@AxisMyIndia #07 The Exact 35-35 Tie Anomaly - This is a possibility. But one of the issues with AMI exit poll is it shows a VS of 35% for TVK. This itself is contrary to other polls.
