@beckinfection Do you think that with the USA being such a hub for entertainment the Canadian scene could end up mirroring the US if we don't promote local music?#MUS2011W21
@OyesomiElijah I agree Elijah we must not forget to promote our own Canadian artists so our industry can continue to develop. This can be done while encouraging other artists at the same time so the two aren't mutually exclusive as some say #MUS2011W21
I believe that a Canadian artist quota is useful due to the fact that the USA is such a dominant force when it comes to the arts. We must carve out a space dedicated to Canadian artist and promote our own music scene in order for it to keep on thriving #MUS2011W21
@edevilla15 I agree I believe the recent surge of music festival-goers show that young people enjoy this live music but just can't always access it so they turn to the digital versions #MUS2011W21
@nathandunne31 I agree 100% with the rise of applications such as SoundCloud and TikTok we see more and more collaboration among artists and younger audiences seem to enjoy it! This has lead to the creation of many new genres such as emo-rap which has become quite popular since 2019 #MUS2011W21
I don't agree with Wald, the younger audience has shown a lot of interest in sampling, covers, and remixing this shows that younger listeners value the performance and collaboration of new and old artists with many of top 100 songs featuring this type of collaboration #MUS2011W21
@JoshuaHynes15 Do you believe that the original artist should get monetary compensation for their influence on a piece similar to how sampling works? #MUS2011W21
@CoreyCo96984778 Do you think this is similar to what record labels do now with "industry plants" in rap? They are essentially artist that come out of nowhere making generic music with popular artists as features #MUS2011W21
White artists are most definitely guilty of cultural theft as it was very popular and not seen for what it was at the time. That doesn't mean that the artist deserves no credit but we must give credit to those who invented the underlying music themes #MUS2011W21
@FrancoP49029007 I agree that Kayne's music was very inspired by Charles, do you think this effect has made its way into other modern rap artists' music? #MUS2011W21
@YazJabr Do you think it was these gospel-inspired sounds that later influenced artists such as Kayne West? Do you think that sampling's popularity in rap music helped these influences break into modern culture? #MUS2011W21
Charles used a breaking voice to not only convey his emotions but also his struggles through life. He enhanced this through a fusion of rock jazz and blues allowing him to stand out from other popular artists at the time and connect with his audience in a special way. #MUS2011W21
@jillldoyle Great example, I've even caught myself listening to music in languages I don't even know. There are tons of artists that we never would be able to access 40 years ago! #MUS2011W21
@YazJabr Great point, with the growth of downloading and streaming, services artists can connect with a whole other part of society in a way that never existed. We also have such a diverse selection of countries to choose from! #MUS2011W21
#MUS2011W21 When I was younger my MP3 player only had space for 50 songs and I would load and unload depending on the mood I was in. Now I wake up every day and have a brand new customized playlist based on my recent songs. I love having access to such a broad range of artists!
