@Neli_Ngqulana@parent4change Indeed. Involvement of parents is so important. I took a decision to be involved at our school. Parents scream transformation, intergration and take a back seat. Though at times i understand their reasons.
“Something’s gone very very wrong here” - love Prof Nuraan Davids words on concerned Rustenburg parents of all races who want girls growing up capable of thriving in diverse society. https://t.co/HTE2utZVM3
Regardless of the merits of Ms Mthembus specific case (I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt); children should not be growing up confused about what excellence looks like and the role of black people in society https://t.co/JUSdzrpceL #rustenburg
It is incomprehensible that the first black teacher was appointed this year, and that the SGB excluded Parents for Change. These are worrying confirmations that subtle racism still exist amongst the school community https://t.co/oMRLk28SkP
"There is no longer an excuse for a school like Rustenburg to continue to say this is going to take time, we need time."

Such an important conversation - unpacking the limits of SGB driven transformation if SGBs aren’t transformed themselves; the role of white defensiveness and internalized racism in resistance to change. @Lesufi let’s implement “inscaping” in our schools https://t.co/t1Hhrr3C4m
White English speaking South Africans like the narrative that racism sounds like Afrikaans and looks like the old flag. The self belief that we are “liberal” blocks us from seeing our own institutional racism and personal prejudices.
