The drone takes off, scans an area it has never seen, and identifies what it's looking for — using onboard computer vision, without a signal from anyone.

No operator watching a screen. No joystick. No radio link to jam.

That last part is why militaries want it. Jamming has been the primary counter-drone defense for years. An autonomous drone doesn't care — there's nothing to cut.

The craziest part?

Every piece of this is already commercially available.

Object detection models are open source. The compute fits on a board smaller than your palm. The airframes ship worldwide.

The hard technical problem was solved years ago — for self-driving cars and warehouse robots.

The military application is the same code, pointed at a different question.

While policy debates about autonomous weapons move at the speed of committee meetings...

The tests are already flying.

The question was never whether machines could find targets.

It's who's still in the room when they do.
