@RutgersAltRoute#altrted#growthmindset I think because each student is so different, things like this aren’t as easy as they sound. It’s impossible to assess an entire class the same way. You have to take into account each student and their unique needs.
@RutgersAltRoute#altrted#growthmindset#generaled I think knowing your students limits is so important. Some students do better with more encouragement like “hey try again” when for others it might actually overwhelm them! So I think just using the correct language
@RutgersAltRoute#altrted#growthmindset I think it is important to show my students that it is okay to make mistakes. I think students learn by how their teacher acts so when I make a mistake I let them know! Teachers make mistakes and try again too
@RutgersAltRoute#altrted#growthmindset I believe using more positive language instead of negative can help. For example, praising students even when wrong. Ex: “not exactly but you’re very close! Try again I know you can do it!”
@RutgersAltRoute#altrted#growthmindset students mindset is everhthing! It is important to know the power of yet. I might not know this right now but I will eventually!
@RutgersAltRoute#altrted#sped I believe consistently is super important, positive reinforcement, and then if more is needed creating a behavior plan with the guidance counselor! It’s also important to see if the behavior is being caused by the disability or not
@RutgersAltRoute#altrted#sped I think with a lot of ADHD student they are extremely intelligent and it’s super important to keep them engaged. When virtual, I think it would be important to put up a digital clock and give them a specific task and time to keep them engaged.
@RutgersAltRoute#altrted#sped some of the challenges I experienced is doing too much for my students. In the grade I teach, I realized giving students with disabilities a chance to choose if super important. For example giving them the option to use a digital notebook.
@RutgersAltRoute A5 #AltRtEd#Standuptobullying I think having check ins with students and having them complete SEL activities can help give us more information about how they feel and why. We can also bring their issues to administration to help be a voice
@RutgersAltRoute A4 #Standuptpbullying#AltRtEd I think it is a challenge within itself. Cyberbullying is such a huge issue and bullying as a whole. It can fall on the teacher even if it happens outside of school and how you respond is really the important part.
@RutgersAltRoute A3 #StandUptobullying#AltRtEd I think communication with parents in the beginning of the year should include sharing goals that you have for students (self advocating is a big one) so students are encouraged to share with adults when something happens!
@RutgersAltRoute A2 #Standuptobullying#AltRtEd I think its extremely important to talk to students one on one and immediately separating the students when conflict occurs. I find that speaking directly to a student helps the most
@Andrew_Garda@RutgersAltRoute I think having compassion and empathy are super important! SEL is huge in my district so working that into my lessons makes all the difference
@RutgersAltRoute A1 #AltRtEd#Standuptobullying my current practices to create a safe environment is to have clear expectations, be consistent with classroom management and model acceptable language and choices.
