I just wrote a letter to my congressional representatives to urge them to oppose Trump's illegal war with Venezuela. Can you join me? https://t.co/LWBt6p8lyt
I love you, #Louisville, and I care about all of us. Thank you all for sharing! I just got confirmation that they just dropped her off at Jewish Hospital. The Mayor's Office reached out to NPR and other contacts to have a statement added. You know they love to control all narratives, especially when #LMPDisGuilty:-(
They are so creative and Mr. Trager, the Mayor's Lawyer, is fancy and out of touch of what happens on the ground. However, nothing beats the truth and #PeoplePower ! They are clearing people with no real resources, and they didn't even take her to a hospital with a labor and delivery department. She had to be transported to a hospital with labor and delivery. All of our major hospitals are in a one mile radius of where they took her. They are more worried about bad press from poor decision-making than the woman they claim to try and save. The cop didn't even believe she was in labor.
We must #keepgoing #reducetheredtape and expose the corruption. I watched the whole video, and it was ridiculous and confirmed what our VOCAL-KY leaders and members see, experience, and 😨 fear.
I ask all officers and service providers to always use their discretion wisely. Any of us would have DRIVEN her to the hospital ourselves. I'm glad she and baby are OK. They towed her RV. These people in charge don't give a damn about homeless people, and there will be many more at the rate we are going. They don't call the experts and directly-impacted to the table... They just make it up as they go wasting our tax dollars on aggressive encampment clearings from state owned roads and over passes. Where is the money and structure for #HB5? "THEY WANT TO BUILD A NEW JAIL ON THE BACKS OF OUR HOMELESS" #wedeservebetter #WeGotUs #JusticeComesinManyForms #keepgoing
“I’m waiting for an ambulance. I might be going into labor. Is that okay?”
“You’re being detained because you’re unlawfully camping.”
Chilling body cam footage shows police detaining and citing a homeless woman who is in active labor.
https://t.co/aXV9DPU0kx
All these politicians & billionaires like Elon Musk out here attacking homeless people & pushing policing of poverty don’t want you to read this!
A woman in fuckin labor was detained bc she was too poor to find a place to live!
That ain’t right! And no one is tell us it is!
VOCAL-KY just wants to Build Power with people impacted by poverty, the failed drug war, HIV/AIDS, mass incarceration, and homelessness to Save Lives in every one of our 120 counties! When we fight, we WIN!

My team, allies & community partners are actually on the ground every day, and there are never more than a few open beds. Most days have ZERO shelter beds open. FAMILIES & MORE ARE sleeping in cars & abandoned buildings and wherever they can #HB5 continues to make things worse:(
For the first time in Louisville history there is no wait list for families experiencing homelessness to receive shelter. This is an incredible success due to the work done by the city, homelessness advocates, & the state legislature.
We who believe in freedom find it hard to rest. In #Louisville & #Kentucky you get so much done when you don't care who gets credit.
The #JusticeForBreonnaTaylor and too many more was/is an ongoing movement. We hit the streets of Louisville in May of 2020 but it all started the day the Louisville Metro Police Department violated her & Kenneth Walker's civil rights. When the 911 call was released in the wake of George Floyd and the arrogance of The FOP of LMPD after Kenneth Walker was released from jail....we gathered even when COVID-19 had been the biggest disruption of our lives. Yesterday was about #PeoplePower in every way! Not one of us, or one organization or one family, or one Mayor and DOJ report. All OF US saying #wedeservebetter and #wegettheretogether ❤️
This was not the first time Louisville dealt with civil unrest due to police violence and negligence. It was the first time WE stood on--> business will not go back to usual because #justicecomesinmanyforms.
The Mayor & Police Chief focused only on the officers, not the victims/survivors, some of whom we will never hear their story or know their names. Thank you Tamika Palmer, Bianca Austin + all of Breonna Taylor's family & loved ones for making us #sayhername until they had no choice but to listen. Beyond that, you all and your legal team included the police reforms and more the Mayor and his Police Chief kept lifting up yesterday.
We know #LMPDISGUILTY and will not reform themselves. They have had plenty of opportunity and money to do so. They earned and needed this consent decree just as much as the people of Louisville.
Our work continues because accountability is a long road in a place where political will has a short memory and too little energy. I have said no matter the role I will uphold my commitment to the people of Louisville and Kentucky because policing is in trouble all over this nation. We will continue to be vigilant just like we were at what I coined #InjusticeSquare that became #BreeWayy. Too many have been lost by the people sworn to protect and serve. Unchecked power breeds corruption. All Louisvillians deserve to survive police interactions.

Will you join us for our End of the Year Celebration & Fundraiser? #VOCALKY is just two and a half years old as an organization. We started our black woman directed, multi-racial membership-led community organizing non-profit, standing on the shoulders of 25 years from ACT UP Movement, to VOCAL-NY and now VOCAL-US!
We didn't parachute in, we didn't take from the good work happening, we added muscle to the local, statewide, and national social justice movements connected to our organing issues.
That #PeoplePower built from leadership development has helped us be recognized as strong advocates for the poor and marginalized with our 120 Kentucky County Focus. Our goal is to save and improve lives with better policies, justice, services, care & decision-making.
We started with 3 people and have grown to 12 part-time, contract and full-time staff in Kentucky.
The work continues in 2025, y'all! We will keep showing up across our beautiful state for our growing members, leaders, and allies from rural, urban, and suburban.
So when you donate to our work, your dollar goes the distance. Our funders have been amazing.
It is important to come together and cheer the good work, build on what we didn't complete, #endthestigma and invest in what we need to do.
Our monthly donors help sustain the work. You can always stay connected to our work and donate here: https://t.co/XJgEpHMIQG

#Louisville I am so proud of y'all! I used to go shopping on #blackfriday but not this year. "They"only listen to our votes and our dollars. #electionshaveconsequences
I miss my friend Katrina Byrnes. She had so much strategy for Black Friday shopping. RIP ❤️
This is my favorite day of the week, y'all! #TeamShameka loves to support local and small businesses. We teamed up with the Louisville Independent Business Alliance to help host their #smallbusinesssaturday event today from 3pm to 7pm in the WestEnd at the Norton Sports and Learning Center located at: 3029 Muhammad Ali BLVD 40212
Bring a friend and join us. Pick up some District 3 swag. As a small business owner who took care of her family with that business for years, I over-stand the importance of spending locally. Our dollar goes the furthest that way. Get some unique gifts for yourself and loved ones!

1. Sunday, December 1st is World AIDS Day! Join VOCAL-KY for our 3rd Annual Event at 2pm.
This year we will be at our https://t.co/Cfqa7FOXge building located at 723 S. Brook Street in Louisville, KY 40203.
Our members, leaders, staff + allies will hold a presser calling for more awareness and resources for people impacted by HIV and/or AIDS and other related conditions. Worldwide, there is a decline in new transmissions of HIV/AIDS with the growing access to prevention medications, ongoing healthcare and education. People are indeed living longer. ❤️
We are the gateway to the South. In our Tri-State area, new transmissions exceeded New York's numbers last year. So it isn't over, y'all! We got work to do on every level. With short-sighted legislation like #HB5, that is expensive and terrible for our unhoused paired with the gutting of programs that work and an over-reliance on arresting our way out of social justice issues, we risk more transmissions of preventable diseases.
In #Kentucky, we see too many lawmakers and appointed decision makers ignore the science, data, and experts. Our current administration in #Louisville is aggressively clearing homeless encampments and displacing people with HIV/AIDS with no resources or no end game.
We need more housing, transportation, and decriminalization legislation to save and improve lives. This is why VOCAL-KY works in coalitions and has a 120 Kentucky County Focus because these issues continue to plague our rural, suburban, and urban communities and members.
If you are able, please join us on Sunday!
We will have free take hom test kits, testing, safe supplies, narcan, and more for free thanks to our many partners.
2. On Monday, we will participate in our first shared #CyberMonday fundraiser for C4 work.
This work is under our VOCAL Action Fund banner.
3. Last, we will have an End of Year Celebration & Fundraiser at Lucretia's Kitchen on December 18th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Food and drinks included.
We are asking for a $25 donation per person.
Members with dues paid are FREE (sliding scale)
Monthly donors are FREE

Read this. #LMPDisGuilty y'all and they love to control the narrative and police themselves.
This is why we need The People's Consent Decree Resolution and The Consent Decree with the DOJ signed by the Mayor and in place. I am glad this brave black officer spoke up. It is very intimidating to do so. Many more want to but can't. Please watch over those who speak out. #justicecomesinmanyforms #keepgoing #JusticeforBreonnaTaylor #MondayMotivation #WeDeserveBetter #WeGetThereTogether #endpoliceabuse #EverybodyAintLying
