I am thinking of AI coding agents the way we once thought about automation in factories. Factories moved from people doing most of the production work to machines doing it, while people increasingly monitored, controlled and validated the output. Software development is going through a similar transition right now. As AI agents are taking over more and more of the actual coding, our work is gradually shifting from producing code to reviewing and validating what gets produced.
But there's an interesting problem here. AI agents can validate the code too. So who validates the validation?

Will GenAI lead to more sloppy code and poorly designed software? We humans are naturally inclined to take shortcuts, and good software has always required someone to care about the details. Now that AI can generate working code in seconds, I wonder if we'll spend less time asking questions such as:
Is this well designed?
Is it maintainable?
Do we actually understand what was generated?
Are we entering an era where producing software becomes easier, but producing good software becomes harder ?

I am still not sure I would call LLMs as “AI”.
The distinction between the two seems to be shrinking everyday, but I keep coming back to one question:
If something can do a task incredibly fast and get it right - many times- is that enough to call it intelligence?
Or are we confusing capability with intelligence?
