It is more often the habit of rationalising and succumbing to pressures (direct or indirect) that lead individuals to commit frauds! Opportunity follows a mind looking for creative ways to cheat the system.

Back then it was glamorising the antagonists but now is it empathising with them?-Looks like storytellers know viewers will find a way to connect and justify the bad actions as long as some moral dilemma is resolved from the villain's end!
