Today 17 Feb @ICRC turns 160yrs!
Still bringing humanity to victims of war & violence
But have we changed the World?
Well, just ask:
➡️one reunited family
➡️one prisoner hearing from home
➡️one mine-victim walking again
Yes we have. A million times over. One person at a time.
They kill children.
They kill soldiers.
They kill women.
They kill the elderly.
They kill animals.
They kill men.
Anti-personnel #mines kill indiscriminately.
They must never be used anywhere, by anyone.
#StopMines#MineBanTreaty
In any armed conflict, the #ICRC takes the side of the victims - and theirs only. This is what the institution was created to do, this is the mandate it has been given, this is what allows its teams to operate across frontlines.
Critically injured people require quick and urgent interventions to save their lives. Therefore, the ICRC in collaboration with the @SRCS_SD trained 40 people in Basic first aid and distributed 38 first aid kits in AlRoseires and Shamar areas in Blue Nile region.
In Kurmuk and bau localities, we have distributed multi-purpose cash to 2,694 returnee families. This will facilitate harvesting, distribution, storage, and transportation during this season.
On 18th December, we donated 800 First Aid kits for the @SRCS_SD branches countrywide to strengthen the local SRCS Emergency Action Teams response capacity.
To introduce the ICRC as an independent, neutral organization that ensures protection and humanitarian assistance to victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence,we held briefing sessions about the ICRC for 45 people at gathering points in El Geneina, including IDPs.
-Humanity
-Impartiality
-Neutrality
-Independence
-Voluntary service
-Unity
-Universality
These are our principles that we adhere to as we work to protect people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.
Knowledge of the basics of first aid may be the decisive factor in saving human lives in times of violence or conflict. In cooperation with the @SRCS_SD, we have built the first aid capabilities of 20 trainees in the Roseires locality in the Blue Nile region.
Really important work: Continuing with efforts to uphold the respect of applicable rules during military/security operations, my colleagues conducted (IHL) and (IHRL) training sessions in Nyala, #Darfur with 170 arms carriers from state armed forces and non-state armed groups.
That's the kind of moments when you know that your job is worth doing: a 12 year old girl reunited with her family after a conflict-induced separation.
#IHL training to members of a new joint security force, bringing arms carriers from former militia and regular forces under unified command in #Darfur#Sudan . We see this training as a crucial element of working towards the protection of civilian populations.
@ICRC_Africa
International humanitarian law (IHL) is a set of rules which seek – for humanitarian reasons – to limit the effects of armed conflict. In the city of "El Fasher", North Darfur, 50 arm carriers of the Joint Security Keeping Forces attended “Training of Trainers” sessions on IHL.
@SRCS_SD@ICRC_Sudan Congratulations @SRCS_SD for bringing relief and happiness to this family, bringing their child back home. We're happy for our strong partnership to contribute to improve people's lives in #Sudan .
@PascalICRC
Introductory sessions were conducted at the gathering points for those affected by violence in "El Geneina", West Darfur, presenting the ICRC as an impartial, neutral, and independent organization devoted to protecting the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict.
In areas of armed conflict and other situations of violence, midwives play a crucial role in providing medical care for women. We trained 9 medical care providers in "Hamda" locality in the Blue Nile region to improve the health of pregnant women and newborns.
Tomorrow, countries from across the 🌍 meet in Dublin to endorse a new political Declaration on Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas.
This marks an important step forward in protecting civilians from explosive weapons in urban conflict.

Strategic planning to fight hunger in conflict affected areas of #Sudan. For example by investing in the production of adapted seeds, allowing farmers to take care of themselves with dignity, rather than depend on food assistance.@ICRC_Sudan@ICRC_Africa
We organized a workshop for the #Sudan agriculture partners including the Federal and State Min of Agric and Forests, National Seeds Authority, and Research Institutions. The workshop aimed at taking stock of 2022 activities and plans for 2023.
"A main humanitarian problem today is that wars are increasingly waged in cities - destroying housing, livelihoods, schools, water provision systems, and the rest". @GCarbonnierICRC
On 18 Nov the Explosive Weapons #Declaration opens for endorsement and +60 States will sign ✒️
