Keep your eyes peeled if you’re interested in this topic as I hope to publish a follow-up paper soon that provides a more concrete solution.
I’d love to hear people’s thoughts in the meantime!
I am really excited to announce the publication of my article in JESP:
“What Makes Nepotism Wrong?”
I examine three distinct objections to nepotism and consider how to delineate its permissibility in the context of selection for advantageous positions

Importantly, I also gesture toward the need to consider the significance of countervailing interests in free association and occupational choice, which may contribute to generating a prerogative to engage in nepotism within institutions of a certain kind.
So is the establishment socialist or liberal? In either case, it’s not a very apt description of the Tory status quo and the last 14 years of stagnation and institutional corrosion…
Delighted to unveil the cover for the U.S. edition of my book out on April 16, Ten Years to Save the West: Leading the Revolution Against Globalism, Socialism, and the Liberal Establishment.

@myavidjeers One way of thinking about this is that there are feasibility constraints on whatever values we might pursue. There’s a lot on non-ideal theory which touches on adjacent issues in political philosophy.
@Helenreflects I’ve often thought that (1)-(3) are necessary to some extent if one is to be a popular intellectual, which is perhaps indicative of people’s expectations. (Though I take this to be a level above ‘internet celebrity’). Are there any good counter-examples?
This absolutely sums up Westminster...Tory and Labour ministers laughing with each other about the Monarch lobbying them to protect frivolous things while children starved.
@victorckumar As someone who fits the categorisation, I don’t think it matters so much. It strikes me that many terms are potentially stigmatising depending on perception/usage. You see elsewhere how slurs may be reclaimed and how pc terms shift once usage is fixed with a negative perception
@MRogers097 Having moved from Philosophy to a Politics dept, I would say that this is rare in my sub field. Pol depts are more likely to accommodate CT or HPT, but I appreciate that analytic philosophers might not engage with these approaches for methodological reasons. I don’t either FWIW.
