"I'd like to be remembered as someone who made a difference and left the world a better place... and was a reasonably good actor."
Sam Heughan.
This quote of Sam's has always resonated with me for a variety of reasons.
I love that despite his obvious passion for acting, it becomes an almost afterthought, simply because first and foremost is his desire to make the world a better place.
Not just for his generation.
But for the generations that will come long after he is gone.
Each year, when selecting a recipient charity for our birthday fundraisers, it is this quote that I circle back to.
Because, at the end of the day, if it is Sam that we are celebrating, then our donations should be doing exactly that.
Making a difference and leaving the world a better place.
(I'll leave the acting part to Sam. He's much better at that than most folks!)
This year's recipient is the dZi foundation.
dZi is doing incredible work alongside Nepali communities.
Communities that Sam spent time in during his visit last year.
Communities that open their hearts to Sam, Jake, and their hiking party, sharing stories, special moments, and much laughter and joy.
DZi is working with the people in these communities to provide skills, infrastructure, and the foundations for self-sufficiency and generational change.
They are making a real and lasting difference in these communities.
Irrigation.
Access to schooling.
Healthcare.
Infrastructure.
And so much more.
Your donations will go directly to funding these interventions.
We are making a difference.
You are making a difference.
So.
Without any further delay.
Over the last month, I am very, very proud to announce that we have raised almost $18,000 USD.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE.
YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!!
(insert very happy dance! Just like Sam dancing around the fire, hands in the air!!)
But.
It doesn't end there.
Nope.
And here's why.
On Sam's visit to Nepal last year, his guide was Jake Norton.
Jake launched our fundraiser at the start of the month and has been watching as our wee "Sam" has made his way up "Everest," cheering us on with every step.
Jake and Sam made it as far as Everest Base Camp last year, and this year, Jake is determined to get "Sam" all the way to the top of our "Everest!"
As such, Jake has graciously offered to match all donations up to $6000 USD over the next week !
(I know.
I was speechless, too!)
Please take the time to read Jake's beautiful words via the attached link.
Jake is able to articulate just how special the people of Nepal are and how important your donations are.

So.
Let's do this!
Let's get Sam to the top of Everest.
He can get a helicopter back down!
He loves ๐ ๐
PS.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, or donated and shared over the last month.
You guys are the heart and soul of our community, and for that, I will always be grateful.
PPS Here's the donation link one last time!

So many people knew the convicted felon would make an awful president and/or leader of anything.
Yet here we are. Snake Oil salespeople always find victims.
BREAKING: MAGA world melts down as Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde calls Donald Trump out directly to his face during a sermon at the National Cathedral โ urging him to find compassion and mercy.
This is the last thing Trump expected today...
"I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared. There are gay, lesbian, transgender children, Democratic, Republican, independent families โ some who fear for their lives," the reverend said as Trump sat in the pews.
She said that millions of Americans "put their trust in you."
"The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals โ they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals," she added.
Destroying Republicans lies about migrants, she said that those workers "pay taxes" and are "faithful members" of American churches, mosques, synagogues, and mosques.
Appealing to empathy that Trump lacks, she said that the children of those migrants "fear their parents are going to be taken away."
"Find compassion," she added, urging him to help vulnerable people fleeing from war zones and persecution โ a tall ask for a man as demonstrably anti-refugee as Trump.
Please retweet and โค๏ธ if you think that a real Christian president would heed the reverend's words โ and consider joining the growing exodus to Tribel, a new pro-democracy social network that is exploding in popularity because Twitter and Facebook are trying to stop its growth โ which is only making Tribel grow even faster.
