Hallo liebe Restdemokraten,
An Energiepreisen.
An Bürokratie.
Rente.
Pflege.
Wohnungsnot.
Fachkräftemangel.
Investitionsstau.
Energiepreise.
Verteidigung.
Kommunen am Limit.
Plötzlich merkt man:
Gehabt euch wohl.
Amazon just canceled the new Stargate series after a 20-week writers room and pre-production had already begun.
The backlash is massive, especially after fans learned the show was being developed by longtime Stargate veteran Martin Gero.
HEY @amazon@AmazonMGMStudio
I REFUSE to believe that the original creators of #Stargate would have created something that wouldn't have had broad appeal. They are extremely talented people that created one of the biggest franchises in our time. REVERSE this decision!
LET THEM SHOW YOU AND US WHAT THEY CREATED.
Look at what is happening to Disney Star Wars at the box office right now. Look at how the new Star Trek Academy went.
WHY do you keep making the same mistakes?!?
IT'S NOT TOO LATE. LET GERO, JOE AND THE OG'S COOK!
Hey Stargate Fans please let @amazon and @AmazonMGMStudio know how you feel about them cancelling #Stargate
They MOCK us. They think they don't need us. Let them know what you think of that.
I won't be watching ANY other Stargate that is created without the OG creators /Gero being involved.
I'm DONE with studios SHITTING ON THE FANS AND KILLING IPS WE LOVE.
#stargate #stargatecanceled #amazon #amazonstudios #amazonmgmstudio
I’m gonna simply say this: if you are at all interested in a Stargate show with ANY of the original creators/performers involved, now is the time to say something. Otherwise it really will be the end of that chapter forever. Let them know you are THERE
The same ideology that produced The Rings of Power and the new Star Trek TV output. Self insert characters, a disdain for established IP fans, they believe the market exists for this kind of stuff, yet failure after failure proves otherwise, but they cannot be reasoned with.
The Variety article states that someone from MGM/Amazon says they would like to "try again" and develop a show with people who have no connection at all with the original IP.
From what Joe has said is that the project developed by the team was both accessible to newcomers with strong connections to the previous shows, a continuation of that world, ready for new viewers to discover and old fans to revisit.
Which will no doubt mean that the show lacked certain "modern audience" requirements from the studio and more likely had competent well written characters and not a bunch of "types" inserted to fulfil tick box exercises.
I've no clue if I'm right or not, but that is the impression I get from the coverage, and I wouldn't expect anyone involved to tell me if I'm correct or not. But to just shout "Capitalism" shows you've not been paying any attenton to scifi fandom and culture for the last 10 years.
Sadly, it's true. Amazon has elected not to move forward with the new Stargate series.
There's not much I can add beyond confirming what's happened. But I will say this...
Creator Martin Gero developed a new Stargate series over two years, ultimately crafting a show that offered a fresh jumping-on point for new viewers while deeply respecting existing canon. It was a series that avoided the pitfalls of several modern remakes and reboots by fully embracing the core of its predecessors: action, adventure, exploration, wonder, heart, humor, and found family. And based on that creative vision, the new Stargate series was greenlit in November of 2025.
As of today, officially, that original vision is no more. We'll never get the opportunity to introduce you to that world and those characters - or reintroduce you to, and check in with, some familiar faces from the past.
My heart breaks. For the incredibly talented writers who worked tirelessly to bring this show to life. For Martin who maintained an unwavering positive outlook throughout despite the challenges, and who always strove to make a show that would honor the fans while welcoming a new audiences. And for the long-suffering Stargate fandom who waited so long and came so close to getting a show they truly would have loved.
Kudos to @AirFranceKLM. They destroyed my wife’s suitcase (stuff happens), so we trudged to the service desk. I was hoping for some duct tape and expected to fill out a form where, maybe, they’d send me twenty bucks in six weeks or so.
Nope! The friendly and efficient clerk apologized for the damage, measured our suitcase, went into the back room, and returned with a brand-new suitcase, the same size, still in the shrink wrap. We swapped the contents right there and rolled out of baggage claim with the new suitcase.
Nicely done. That’s the sort of service I’d expect from Singapore Air, not a European carrier.
(By the way, what happened to @SamsoniteUSA? Apparently they’re no longer gorilla-proof…)
HERE WE GO - I am very proud to announce that an animation studio based in Thailand has acquired the rights to my movie. They are called "The MONK Studios", are based in Bangkok, and are passionately pursuing a way to make this discarded film a reality.
Technically, it's Stripe, the payment processor for most of the Internet, pressuring them to do this, for political reasons.
"Stop allowing material we disapprove of, or we'll destroy your entire site" is a hell of a threat.
We knew pure democracy could be a dictatorship.
What is now apparent is that a cartel of politically allied people working at many different businesses can turn what is nominally a free market into a dictatorship as well, without requiring the force of the State.
Nobody would have believed it, and even now, many people can't, won't, or don't believe it, even though it's operating in the open.
A political cartel of financial institutions is NOT the free market.
Apparently animating more than ~20 characters in modern graphics engines is a big deal😅
324 skinned characters animating independently in WebGPU (browser)
Each character is playing animating with a completely separate skeleton and a timeline. No two characters sample the same time.
Character has 66 bones and 28,106 triangles
I want to stress that there is no instancing of any kind here, and CPU is not involved at all.
This website is like a piece of paper that's glued to the wall like you ripped it off of a magazine. There's panning and scrolling. The mental model of the page is vividly clear. Navigation is straightforward and predictable. Menu doesn't move. The 'staticness' of these old sites is undervalued and now kind of forgotten.
Compare this with modern full screen webapps that give you no sense of where you are on the page and molasses-like animated UI that captures native scrolling. These websites have their own abstraction layer to navigate, browse and present things. Almost like motion picture that presents information to you and you don't have much control. Signifiers that visually inform you of interactability are misplaced or entirely missing. You have some illusion of control but it's nowhere as explicit as a static page.
There is an ad-tech-smell and "pop" in modern websites as they take over your visual field in mysterious, unpredictable ways. Doesn't let go of the attention easily. Huge typography and motion effects captivate users kinda like a 30-sec advertisement. Crack cocaine of information consumption.
Combine this with terrible decisions at the OS-level like making scrollbars invisible, practice of UI/UX is deeply unserious today. It's not like we don't have solutions and it's an unknown problem. We have the blueprints. We had it all and we deliberately abandoned it with great carelessness. But in a certain light, the practice of UI/UX today is deeply serious in the ad-tech aspects and bedazzles their userbase with ever-increasing sense of bedazzlement. What purpose does Apple Liquid Glass UI serve otherwise?
Open for discussion and critique.
Vienna’s old gas tanks became a city within a city.
Built between 1896 and 1899, the four Gasometers once stored town gas for Vienna. After they were decommissioned in the 1980s, their historic brick shells were preserved and transformed between 1999 and 2001 into apartments, offices, shops, entertainment spaces, and a music venue — one of Europe’s most striking examples of industrial adaptive reuse.
