How have we reached a common consensus that refs aren't impartial if you complain about them?

Isn't that highly unprofessional? Are referees not paid to be above the pantomime of the Premier League?

Even this comment, from an ex-ref, stating that refs are fine being theatre props is deeply alarming. We don't want refs to be part of the show; they should be background noise, like they were at the World Cup.
