Anthropic’s AI Claude gained unauthorized access to external systems for the fourth time during testing

The company reported a new incident involving an early version of Claude Opus 4.6. Due to a configuration error, the model was given internet access and began taking actions it was not supposed to perform as part of the test.

Three similar incidents occurred in July. In one case, the model accessed a real database; in another, it modified records at a real company; and in the third, it continued carrying out a task after gaining access to a third-party computer.
