i’ve been thinking a lot about why queer love stories seem to resonate so much harder with audiences (regardless of their own sexuality), and beyond the obvious reasons queer people gravitate to them - i think it’s because queer love is inherently more intense.

even in the most accepting of backdrops there’s an element of “fighting” for the love in a way that straight people simply don’t have to. whether it’s in-universe or just in context from the real world that consumers bring with them, it’s a fact that all of us are aware of that being queer can often feel like an uphill battle. there’s something about a love story that transcends that and where the characters are willing to fight for the love anyway.

queer love in media is more than just love - it kind of feels like a statement and i think what it represents really resonates.
