A few days ago at dinner I asked the iconic founder of the world changing companies @zillow and Expedia and current @netflix board member @Rich_Barton and his wife Sarah what they consider the most important aspects of leadership. They told me the story of the Wizard of OZ. "You gotta have HEART (the ability to feel and sense things that the mind cannot) like the Tinman wanted, COURAGE (Showing up in the face of things most will fear) like the Lion needed, and BRAINS (The ability to strategize and plan) like the Scarecrow desired." As Good (Holy) Friday comes to an end, I’m reminded of how watching death rob us scares us away from expecting an abundance of life. It declares an unquestionable finality that forces us to accept the end of things we believed still had so much more to offer. With heads hung low we mourn, we fear we might be next to die and eventually we give up completely as we watch death take and bury our hopes, our expectations and our joy.

In the journey of this life, there are moments when it seems all is lost, when everything you’d staked your life on is snuffed out and you have no more expectations of revival. BUT!… My Bible tells me that “weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning” it’s only a season my friend. I know the pain is real but it will end. So hold on with everything you have.

I’m here to encourage you and strengthen you and remind you that despite who you are, what you’ve done and what you’re going through “this too shall pass” and that “I am still confident of this, you will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Hold on a little while longer. Mourn your loss, your pain with the hope that in the next season you will have re-joy, re-vision, re-demption and there will be re-lief. The wound will heal and the scars will only serve to re-mind you how you got through it.

May this Easter (particularly this Good Friday & Holy Saturday) be a meaningful season of burying the pain, wiping your tears and waiting with great expectation for the arrival of your new season. It is well my friend, God is watching and will soon give us new life again. Amen.
