The primary function of the local church IS NOT evangelism.

The local church exists primarily to:

1.Worship God
2.Preach and teach sound doctrine
3.Equip the saints
4.Practice the ordinances
5.Maintain holiness through discipline
6.Send out trained witnesses into the world

Evangelism is essential—but it’s the mission of the people, not the central focus of the weekly gathering. If you make that the focus of the weekly gathering you’ll eventually soften on sin to make the church seeker-sensitive. The church exists to feed sheep—not entertain goats.
