On this day in 1945, the Ludendorff Bridge (1919) at Remagen was captured by US troops. Its capture enabled the Americans to establish a crucial bridgehead on the eastern side of the Rhine. The Germans tried to destroy it multiple times, and it finally collapsed ten days later.🧵
