Poland vanished from the map for over a century, but Türkiye refused to recognize it. They even kept a seat reserved for the Polish ambassador at every royal court meeting.
Nearly 250 years later, that loyalty is still remembered.
Rockets don't push against air. They push against their own exhaust.
Rocket Thrust Equation:
F = ṁVₑ + (pₑ − p₀)Aₑ
Where:
• F = thrust produced by the rocket
• ṁ = mass flow rate of exhaust gas
• Vₑ = exhaust velocity
• pₑ = exhaust pressure at the nozzle exit
• p₀ = surrounding (ambient) pressure
• Aₑ = nozzle exit area
Key points:
• The term ṁVₑ is the momentum thrust created by high speed exhaust leaving the rocket.
• The term (pₑ − p₀)Aₑ is the pressure thrust caused by the pressure difference between the exhaust and the surrounding environment.
• Most rocket thrust comes from accelerating exhaust gases to extremely high speeds.
• Rockets work in space because thrust comes from expelling mass backward, not from pushing against the atmosphere.
Newton's Third Law in action: exhaust goes one way, the rocket goes the other.
The speed of sound isn't a limit for motion. It's a limit for how fast pressure disturbances can travel through a medium.
Mach number measures that speed ratio:
M = u/v
where "u" is the object's velocity and "v" is the speed of sound.
When "M > 1" , sound waves can no longer move ahead of the aircraft. They compress into a shock wave called a "Mach cone", producing the powerful pressure change we hear as a sonic boom. The cone angle is linked to Mach number by:
sin(θ) = 1/M
The faster the aircraft flies, the narrower the Mach cone becomes.
The Ottoman Empire never recognized the erasure of Poland.
For 123 years, at every banquet, they announced:
‘The Ambassador of Poland!’
An empty chair. Every time.
But they never stopped calling.
In 1918, Poland was reborn.
The chair was no longer empty. 🇵🇱🇹🇷
