Hey @google I’d like to report an error.
The lake that borders New York and Ontario is an international body of water, and it is widely agreed by the entire world, except one rogue leader, that the name of this lake is “Lake Ontario”
Grow a spine and fix it.
A Letter for You
Somewhere, even now, life is reaching toward you in the gentlest of ways. A kettle hums on a stove and someone pours a cup of tea thinking of a person they love. Somewhere, a stranger holds a door just a moment longer so another soul can pass through. You may not see it, but the world is constantly conspiring to be kind.
You are not forgotten. You are not invisible. Even on the days that feel too quiet, someone is thinking of you with softness. Someone remembers your laugh and the way you once made them feel safe. Someone sees your name and their heart stirs with gratitude simply because you exist.
Right now, the universe is weaving small miracles into the fabric of your ordinary day. A dog is wagging its tail wildly when its person comes home. A friend is rereading an old message because it still makes them smile. Somewhere, love is being spoken not through words but through the steady presence of someone who stays.
If you ever wonder whether the world is good, let this be your proof. The goodness lives in you. It’s in the way you care, even when no one notices. It’s in the softness you offer to people who may never say thank you. It’s in your laughter, your tenderness, your courage to keep showing up.
The world is better because you are here. And though you may not always hear it, there are hearts beating a little lighter because they have known you. Somewhere, right now, you are the reason someone still believes in love.

I don’t want technology to “evolve” another bloody inch. I hate that everything demands an app or QR code. I hate supermarket self-checkouts that scold you for “unexpected items” as if you have committed a hate crime with a packet of biscuits. I hate ringing a company and suddenly you’re trapped in a doom loop of an endless conversation with a robot before being left on hold long enough to waste an entire afternoon. I hate how local bank branches are closing and customer service is no longer communication with a bank manager but with an AI bot. I hate websites that force you to prove you’re human by enforcing a dystopian farce quiz to spot 3 sets of traffic lights in a fog of pixelated misery. I hate digital app passwords, verification codes and subscriptions. I hate how town centre car parks often no longer accept cash payments and the only way to park is by registering to another bloody app. I hate receiving unsolicited phone calls from an AI automated robot. And I really hate how the whole digital circus excludes half of the country’s pensioners simply because they never signed up to live inside a smartphone.
Rant over.
I'm old enough to remember a time when someone died, & people had the capacity to show empathy to the grieving family. Now within 24 hours people are on SM saying nasty things. Whether they are true or not is irrelevant to me. The family are innocent. Humanity costs nothing.
So I got piled on last night for merely tweeting that I thought a tweet by Julia Hartley-Brewer on Jason Arday a day after his suicide was callous & cold-hearted. I despair at what this wretched ‘culture war’ has done to people’s humanity. Anyway I deleted my tweet. I’ve had enough of this platform for a while. There’s too much aggression, too much stridency, too much unkindness, too much rudeness. Too many pile-ons when people merely express their opinion (similar happened when I merely said it was very warm outside this week- not supposed to say that either it seems). The culture war divisions are so firmly entrenched that you daren’t say anything. All very sad.
@TheRealJamieKay Not very bright people being manipulated by Right-wing Nationalists!
The kind of people that exhibit road rage, drop litter in the street, and say they're moving abroad to get away from the foreigners!
Caroline Flack faced 387 national newspaper stories mentioning her in the six months before her death.
Look at the extraordinary breadth of scrutiny Jason Arday faced.
At what point does legitimate journalism stop being accountability and become something else?
Even when you've seen far too much of it recently, it's still hard to keep the smile from your face when the sun comes barrelling over the hills towards you at dawn, getting tangled in the trees and drifting through the heather. It was mercifully still cool on the moors with a light breeze when I took this, and this delicate silver birch was doing her very best morning shimmy.

If Trump was captain of the Titanic he not only would’ve taken the first lifeboat but he also would have announced to the passengers that everything was fine right before leaving. “Everything is fine everyone. I’m the best captain ever. I know exactly what I’m doing.”
Not normally nasty but would so like for Nigel Farage to be absolutely HUMILIATED by a DUST BIN for all the hatred and bitterness he has stirred up in this country #clapton#countbinface#reform#newsnight
OK, I have lots of favourite gates - doesn't everyone?! - but you have to admit that THIS is a cracker, especially when those stretching fields beyond are covered in layers of soft morning mist. I had to stand and admire it for quite some time. It looked like a gateway to another world, where the trees had become islands in a shallow sea of ever-shifting white.
