A footballer named Jeremy Doku left the World Cup to be at his wife’s side for the birth of their first child.
He got shamed for it.
Let me get this straight. We call out the partners who are emotionally and physically absent and we ALSO call out the ones who want to be present?
What the hell.
The “fathers are useless at birth” narrative is hella damaging. This is exactly what’s wrong with how we view parenthood.
A man choosing to show up isn’t the problem. A culture that mocks him for it is.
ER doctors are entrusted with neurologic, cardiac, infectious, psychiatric, trauma, abdominal, pediatric emergencies and more. If you trust us on all that - trust us that vaccination is safe, effective and has saved 154 million lives in the last 50 years.
A plumber knows more about plumbing than you.
A pilot knows more about flying than you.
A scientist usually knows more about science than you.
That doesn’t make them automatically right.
But it does mean the burden of proof is on the person claiming thousands of experts got it wrong.
Science isn’t a democracy.
It’s not decided by likes, vibes, or confidence.
It’s decided by evidence.
And evidence doesn’t care who wins the argument.
Stephen Colbert has a talent for making people laugh and encouraging them to stay curious, stay engaged, and stay hopeful about the world around them.
@StephenAtHome: Thank you for your voice, your creativity, and so many memorable conversations over the years. Cheers to you.
No nation, no society, and no international order can call itself just and humane if it measures its success solely by power or prosperity while neglecting those who live at the margins. Indeed, Christ’s love for the least and the forgotten compels us to reject every form of selfishness that leaves the poor and the vulnerable invisible.

My patient stuck in ER for 4 days with no hospital bed to accept them is more important than:
-landing more jets in Toronto
-an Austrian spa
-a new Science Center
-a new jet
-rebate cheques before an election
-accelerated expanded alcohol sales
The real Mr. Poilievre is back. Name-calling and nick names. Not dignified, not Prime-Ministerial. We can disagree on policy and not sink to this level.
It's reasonable Premier Ford have a jet when:
-I don't see ER patients in the open hallway
-ERs don't run out of hallways to put patients
-I don't have to see patients on EMS stretchers because there is no hallway bed available
Totally agree with Dr. Drummond. It's important physicians engage with the community while acknowledging the most important Canadians who shaped our publicly funded healthcare system were not physicians but regular people with a vision for this great nation.
Radiology has significantly ramped up productivity and availability in Ontario ERs. But we need to keep up the output especially with an aging and more medically complex population. Not criticism but encouragement. Radiology can often be the rate-limiting factor.
It's breathtaking how someone as misinformed as Premier Smith can speak so confidently. She's wrong. Safe consumption sites don't hand out drugs. They prevent people from dying and connect them to a host of support services.
You know what doesn’t care about your politics?
Cancer
Heart disease
Alzheimer disease
Stroke
Infectious diseases
…and more
The MAHA movement has created a false divide and demonization of modern medicine and is pushing a narrative that “all natural” is somehow safer or better. Meanwhile, these diseases are completely indifferent to your ideology, your preferences, or your labels. They don’t care what you believe in, they respond to what actually works. Evidence based lifestyle habits, prevention, screening, and treatment save lives. Rejecting that doesn’t make you healthier, it just makes you more vulnerable.
Can someone teach Premier Smith how medicine works:
1 - a patient has symptoms. They feel something. Let's say there's a headache.
2 - a clinical history is taken. A story.
3 - a physical exam is done. Maybe that headache is shingles. 👇👇👇
4 - a differential diagnosis is generated. A list of ideas what could be the problem.
5 - treatment, testing or both are considered. Let's do a swab of that rash just above your hairline and treat with valacyclovir.
6 - a test or treatment is done and the situation is reassessed. Ah, I see the rash has crusted over now and the shingles swab is positive. You don't need an MRI.
7- at any point, a specialist opinion may be needed. The shingles has progressed close to your eye now, let's get ophthalmology to look at you.
The way medicine doesn't work is I have a headache and I book myself in for a private MRI which is normal because an MRI doesn't diagnose shingles, migraine headaches, temporal arteritis or acute angle closure glaucoma.
It's insane to think there is no one likely advising the Alberta government on how actual medicine is performed in 2026 - or for that matter in 2016, 2006, 1996 or 1986. The thing that should never happen is symptom leading to go get myself tested jumping the queue just because you have more money and jumping ahead of someone maybe with a new brain cancer on CT that really needs that MRI more than you for your shingles.
None of what Alberta is doing is for patient good. It's for something else. But not for patients.

I'm very eager for Dr. Danielle Martin, Canada's newest Member of Parliament to defend our publicly funded healthcare system as she has done throughout her important medical career.

There are thousands of incredible physicians caring for patients quietly in remote corners of the world, without making it to the author list of medical journals! You won't see them at conferences either, but each one deserves our respect. Each one matters 🙏🏽
