A new study argues that cutting Earth's population to 4 billion is the best way to secure a ”pro-human,” sustainable future.

Published in the journal Sustainable Development, the paper, co-authored by Mark Keegan and an international team of researchers, argues that accelerating biodiversity loss, carbon emissions, and resource depletion are directly tied to the size of our global population, which currently sits at over 8.3 billion.

Rather than championing draconian or coercive measures, the study emphasizes a voluntary transition.

The researchers suggest that expanding access to quality education for girls, improving reproductive healthcare, and empowering women globally are the keys to naturally and gently reversing population trends.

While some critics fear a population decline could trigger economic crises and stress aging social systems, the study's proponents argue otherwise.

They point to nations that have successfully normalized lower birth rates, observing that gradual demographic shifts often lead to increases in per capita GDP, rising real wages, and improved overall well-being. Ultimately, the study frames population balance not as a threat, but as a deliberate choice to restore ecological harmony while preserving a high quality of life. By shifting focus from limitless growth to sustainability, the researchers argue that humanity can protect the climate and wildlife without compromising human freedom.

Air India cancelled the return leg of the journey without any prior intimation.

@nitin_gadkari , estimated yearly deaths in road accidents in india is 2.5 lacs, @ 2-5 Lac usually compensation set by Govt, this amounts to 5K Cr to 12.5K Cr annually. So much more can be done in this budget and more importantly lives saved. See the traffic system of Norway.
