Intentional Interim Pastor with Vital Church Ministry. Carol and I are currently serving at Truth Baptist Church in S Windsor, CT & coach for clergy retiring
Thank you! Very helpful. Church world unfortunately is not too different sometimes as a pastor. I have made it a habit to not read anonymous notes or emails. I told my wife she will have to put her name to the notes 😇😉
Anyway that simple decision to focus on notes signed by folks has helped.
Seriously I appreciate how you handle this platform and we like the great mix of stuff thats presented! Blessings!!
As I am now on the other side of 50 plus years in ministry I think of a few things I would do differently as a young preacher. I began a personal journal a few years ago about what now Pat would tell 30 year old Pat. This one will make it in the journal. So listen in if you care to. It's a 3 min read, but worth it I think.
Galatians 2 really has some great lessons on why our life is all about the Gospel and we must not alter the message for fear of upsetting someone. I hope my young preacher friends will read it!! OK see below:
Hey 30 year old Pat learn a lesson now that will freeeee you. Unfortunately, your're in good company as Peter and Barnabus had to learn this too. BEWARE OF THE FEAR OF WHAT PEOPLE THINK, OR SAY when it comes to sharing and living Truth from God's Word!
Galatians 2: 11-14
But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong. 12 When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile believers, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn’t eat with the Gentiles anymore. He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision. 13 As a result, other Jewish believers followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.
14 When I saw that they were not following the truth of the gospel message, I said to Peter in front of all the others, “Since you, a Jew by birth, have discarded the Jewish laws and are living like a Gentile, why are you now trying to make these Gentiles follow the Jewish traditions?
Apostle Paul called both Peter & Barnabus on this mistake. Yep, even good godly guys can fall into the fear of what others think! I know I have, especially when I was young Pat. You’re a smart guy Pat…I’m NOT saying do anything or say anything…ditch the social filter. OOOOF too many have done that!! Rather, what I urge you to do is just concentrate on preaching the whole counsel of God! Preach with urgency, empathy, kindness, love and say what God’s Spirit says to say from scripture. Sometimes, people do not like what the Bible says. Just look at when Jesus taught truth. Sooooo, young Pat have rhino skin and a tender heart and preach/teach what the scripture says! Don’t be pompous or proud…just humbly do your job dependant on God leading you in His strength.
By the way, it’s ok to have a team you trust to help you say what needs to be said, especially if it is an important issue you are preaching. The point is not to barf out pent up stuff you want to get off your chest with people. Rather you are called to love, guide, teach by example, and lead great people to love God and love people. Not everyone will like what they hear. Do not fear their words, or their position. Just be humble, and resolute when it is Truth being taught! Beware of leading by making power people happy. You know why right? If you live to make people happy and for them to give “holy kudos” to you then they will….till they don’t! Then what?
Well that’s enough for today young Pat! Prayerfully think on this. We are in the people business with the privilege of helping people follow Jesus and His Word. Concentrate on the big K Kingdom of God and not the temptation to secure our own little k kingdom! God bless you buddy! Hey, you sure have a great wife (and cute too…..she still is) and two great kids! Love and lead them by example. They need you!!
@BethMooreLPM The beauty of our story is it’s our story of Jesus meeting us in our need! I love how you have said this! Each of our stories are different but also the same!
God is soooo good huh?!
@BethMooreLPM Good Lord’s Day! Ps 27 today and one of the weapons against Satan is worship! Joy in the MORNING today! Have a blessed day Beth & fam!
