@Smolsnek19 LUK is like STR. Basically get nothing unless you are building some very niche battle critical bard. But this would be very gear dependent and not an easy choice out the gate.
@Smolsnek19 INT is useful in smaller amounts. Unless you go support bards in which case you will want quite a lot.
VIT makes you more survivable as it increases your HP and soft defenses.
STR would only be for carrying capacity so get VERY little of this. 10 at most but you can get 1.
@Smolsnek19 We can wait until you are ready to switch over to talk about Bard skills.
I'll reiterate, in terms of stats as an archer. You can never really go wrong with DEX. AGI is very useful for increasing your Attack Speed but might not be used as much if you end up a support bard.
@Smolsnek19 I say minimum, because you can grab Arrow Shower if you really want.
It might have some very specific situational benefit but most archers never use it and instead use the better single target damage of Double Strafe.
Bards don't need to worry about archer skill requirements.
@Smolsnek19 If the latter I would say you should probably go Hunter as they are way more battle effective. Or at least what a new player has access to in terms of gear makes them easier to play that way.
@Smolsnek19 So I would instead ask this:
What do you want to achieve with your bard? Do you want to be the best support you can be? Do you want to be a unique hybrid that is capable of fighting but also supporting? Do you want to say screw others I just wanna deal dmg and be cool?
@Smolsnek19 There are certain skills that scale differently with other stats. Investing lets say in INT to optimize your Magic Strings as bard will come at the cost of easier levelling as archer.
Also you might decide that isn't a song or playstyle for you and would rather be a battle bard.
@Smolsnek19 So I guess I should put everything in DEX?
The short answer is yes. The long answer is yes but it depends. It depends on what second class you will be going and how you want to play that class.
@Smolsnek19 It also happens to be their chance to hit. This is another advantage the archer has over other classes. Melee classes need to get DEX, so they can hit their target, and STR so they can deal bigger number.
The archer gets both those in DEX since they are ranged!
@Smolsnek19 This is why most archers focus their damage stat. While it depends on playstyle, if you want to take advantage of hit and run tactics, or fighting immobile monsters that can't get to you, then all you need is damage.
Damage for ranged characters is their DEX stat.
@Smolsnek19 Alright well there is offense and defense to consider. Whereas a swordsman gets to wear high defense gear and a thief can benefit from skills that make them dodge, an archer gets nothing to passively reduce damage.
BUT they can actively reduce their damage by staying at range.
