Just a reminder that the Republican Congress could stop this ridiculous wasteful, destructive behavior whenever they wanted. They don’t have the will and Democrats don’t have the votes.
As much as we fight amongst ourselves in the different wings of the Democratic Party, ultimately, this is a coalition filled with genuinely good people who care deeply about our shared values and about moving this country forward.
I would rather be in a party filled with people who give a damn and are trying to do the right thing than become a soulless, mirror-image reverse of what the Republican Party has become under Donald Trump.
That's why you see everyone on the left coming together to give Platner the boot today.
@oelayat Actually, @neeratanden is correct. Even though Illinois is considered to be a safe, blue state the vast majority of our counties are neither safe nor blue. I know. I'm a Democratic County Chair of one. When @BarackObama was elected here, he won by being a pragmatic progressive.
America is a constant work in progress. Every generation must take up the unfinished work of the last and carry it further—protecting what’s right, fixing what’s wrong, and making our union a little more perfect. 250 years later, that’s more important than ever.
This holiday weekend, as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, I'll be thinking not just about the history of the United States but about our future.
If our generation does its job, then by the time our kids are celebrating the 300th, they'll look back on the decades between these milestones with admiration for how America faced ferocious challenges and once more drew nearer to its highest ideals.
From our family to yours, happy Fourth of July!
Mamdani: There is a term so often used to describe our nation and those who have shaped it: American exceptionalism.
American exceptionalism, the conventional wisdom tells us, makes our freedom a little more free, is how we dug the Erie Canal and irrigated the West, is why children in far away lands grow up dreaming of one day moving here.
And yet the irony is that the story of America has so often been written by those who were told by others with power and influence and wealth that they were anything but exceptional.
For generation after generation, we have been told that when the world has sent its people to our shores, it has not sent its best. It sent Puritans and Sikhs and Quakers and Muslims and Jewish people who were banished for praying the wrong way, worshipping the wrong Gods, angering the wrong people. It sent peasants and serfs from who were treated as less because they hardly owned clothes, let alone land. It sent immigrants for whom power was something someone else had.
We are told that America is exceptional because we are richer, stronger, more powerful than everyone else.
The truth, my friends, is that America is exceptional because here, nothing is fixed into place. The frontier may be closed, we may have walked on the moon, but the work of fulfilling the values first enshrined in the Declaration of Independence-that work endures, my friends, and it belongs to us all.
It belongs too to our newest Americans, those standing here with me today, all of whom were recently naturalized. Nearly a decade ago, I too felt what you feel— the joy of no longer being just a New Yorker, but an American too.
Exactly this: Voters do not exist on a simple moderate vs progressive spectrum! They want candidates who don't gaslight them about how bad things are -- none of this "it's a distraction" bullshit -- and who seem up to fighting & doing whatever they can. That's not solely a lefty/DSA thing, but if the center isn't offering anything, well...
Ossoff: And, see, this is what small men like Donald Trump and Mike Collins will never understand. That our national greatness flows not through our blood or our genes, but through our ideas and our care for one another. Americans are not a race. We are a people united not by ethnicity, but by shared convictions.
Crowd: *chants USA*
This week someone targeted my family for harm with a false report. We’re physically OK, but that doesn’t mean we weren’t harmed. I am beyond furious.
Whatever your politics, this is awful, wrong, and can never become normal. https://t.co/72wxaVLzVT
Trump’s USPS is threatening to withhold mail ballots unless states turn over voter rolls.
We’re going to fight like hell to protect your right to vote.
See you in court, @realDonaldTrump.
Everybody wants to make the midterms more complicated than they need to be. Trump promised to make everything cheaper. Instead, he made everything more expensive. That’s why Republicans are going to lose big.
#BREAKING: Hayes: I’m not an expert but even I didn’t expect the material to be peeling off in a number of DAYS. What exactly did they do there? 😂
Maxine Joselow: “What I can say is that federal contracting records and internal Park Service documents show that this material that they spread on the bottom of the Reflecting Pool to waterproof the bottom is called Rhino Liner 5000. It is a polyurethane coating that is typically used in truck bed liners and in pipes including water pipes and sewage pipes, and It is NOT typically used in swimming pools or in large water basins like the Reflecting Pool.” 🙄🤦♀️
“If you're mad about giving up two runs in the 9th, take your ass to go play tennis.”
Divisional game, packed house, blown save — no finger-pointing. No quit. Next man up.
That's a winning ballplayer.
The plan is for this plane to be in service for two years and then Trump will take if for himself. No President has ever stolen an Air Force for himself.
And you paid for it. The total cost could be $1 billion of your money for a new luxury jet for Trump and his family.
