I'm honored to be a part of PBS NOVA’s 'Secrets in Your Data' film, premiering in just a few hours. Watch it on PBS at 9pm or on YouTube at 6pm PST / 9pm EST. https://t.co/ChiAjx1bWK
We helped the BBC investigate TikTok's tracking pixel. Here's what we found, and the technical evidence we can now share publicly.
TikTok's pixel is collecting data from cancer support sites, fertility clinics, and crisis mental health services, and many other sensitive websites.

Don't use TikTok? Doesn't matter they still track you, even on health sites. Our CTO @patjack and CEO @caseyoppenheim helped @BBC uncover how TikTok's hidden "pixel" trackers are embedded across thousands of websites silently collecting your data.

Our CTO @patjack is featured on PBS NOVA’s “Secrets In Your Data” documentary. Excellent overview of the history of data collection and how your personal data is tracked. Check it out, especially the portion featuring Patrick starting around minute 14. https://t.co/cDF17lhyHY
Two class-action lawsuits have been filed against the shopping site Temu, accusing the company of failing to safeguard customers' personal data and misleading users. @vickynguyentv reports.
We researched and discovered the super popular shopping app Temu was violating user privacy. As a result of excellent investigation by @vickynguyenTV@journalism_joe@todayshow Temu revised it’s privacy disclosures and data collection practices. https://t.co/Ef8mbZbNEr
After Apple gave Temu 14 days to fix their app or risk being pulled (it’s the #1 app in the app store), Temu stopped collecting the IPs and they silently updated their Privacy Labels to say all the data they previously declared as not linked to a user, is indeed linked to a user
Temu was abusing an API on iOS that allowed them to probe and collect all the device’s IPv6 addresses. This included the user’s cellular IPs even if they were using Wi-Fi while using the Temu app.
Have you heard of “Temu?” @VickyNguyenTV gives us an exclusive look at the shopping app that has taken the country by storm with prices that are almost too good to be true, and the hidden cost consumers may be trading by online shopping: their privacy.
What does your personal email reveal about you?
When you enter your email or phone number to get a discount at your favorite store or restaurant, you’re also potentially giving away personal information. @VickyNguyenTV shares how to protect your privacy.
We worked with @geoffreyfowler on this great article about TikTok privacy.
“Disconnect found TikTok has followed Facebook’s lead and ratcheted up how much data it collects, particularly including tracking webpages you visit outside of TikTok.” https://t.co/Q5kxQOrvFY
No, TikTok is NOT a giant Chinese spy balloon hovering over your phone.
Seriously, though: Politicians want us to delete TikTok. So I investigated the real privacy risks vs the hype @washingtonpost.
For most users, TikTok is no more risky than Facebook.

Stop iPhones from spying on kids with this new app.
Do Not Track Kids, made by an ex-National Security Agency researcher, works behind the scenes to block connections to data brokers and ad companies. https://t.co/VxVUBu0fZ9
“A frightening number of kids’ apps are spying on them. Now parents can get some help to stop it. A new app called Do Not Track Kids acts like a privacy shield for iPhones and iPads used by children.”
@geoffreyfowler covers our newest app! https://t.co/p9cp6yZR3j
Check out our blog post for more details about our research and why we think TikTok's massive and increasing surveillance is super concerning. https://t.co/TjmkC4Cehw
