Another thing — right now, we're in Daylight Time for 8 months a year. Why is everyone acting like Permanent Standard Time is not a drastic change to the entire concept of summer! It's a very big shift to save a couple winter mornings!
We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers. He was 41 years old.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and the entire motorsports community.
The issue of the Preakness and the Triple Crown is a microcosm of an issue that has been ongoing in racing for a long time. Horses don’t run anymore. I remember in 2006 when Barbaro was coming into the Derby off a five week “layoff” it was one of the most talked about topics going into the Derby. Now, if a horse went in off three weeks, people would ask “is that enough time?”
Derby horses averaged 9 starts going into the Derby 20 years ago, that average is now 5. Horses run their final Breeders Cup prep in August. In New York, there isn’t enough support for a Whitney-Woodward-Jockey Club Gold Cup schedule anymore. In the 1980’s they ran those races and the Marlboro Cup in a 10 week period.
If we continue to adjust schedules to accommodate horses running less and less, horses will continue to run less and less. Make the gap between Triple Crown races four weeks and in a few years people will want it to be six weeks.
Stop racing to breed. Breed to race.
Translation: We were a 23-1 long-shot to win the Derby and don’t think we would win the shorter track against a horse like Renegade again. So we will preserve our horse’s health — AHEM! “Value” — and get the max we can for future stud fees.
Gutless horse owners have killed this sport. They prioritize money over wins and legacy. She’s not the first, nor the last do this. It’s just destroyed this once insanely popular sport.
@myradicalapathy@KySportsRadio I think it makes on3 look worse by posting it after and not before. You force the Pope & co’s hand and make them know by doing it that way. You also do exactly what every media group does just like they’d been doing all portal anyways and just post it to be first to the story
@snuffpursuit@KySportsRadio The trend of the program? What do you mean? Pope had 1 good season and 1 season where he had bad losses but also good wins which I will say was overall disappointing and he isn’t getting all the top guys in the portal/HS. This means our program is now shit after 1 year? Come on
@snuffpursuit@KySportsRadio Idk why they would’ve been gun shy with it. They haven’t been gun shy with literally other info this portal season. Hell one of em said Freeman postponed his UK visit for UConn while he was actively on campus. They’ve been playing “I need to be first even if I’m wrong”
@snuffpursuit@KySportsRadio But you just said there’s nothing to be positive about. And are now saying everyone is positive make up ur mind my guy
The media has a lot to do with recruiting when they know Stokes signed but don’t put it out there and when they leak his commitment causing him to open back up
@snuffpursuit@KySportsRadio The media sure as hell has a hand in the message they put out and can choose to convey a message one way or the other. Especially when they sit on info that Stokes had already signed
Can we not be positive and happy about our new guy that just signed yesterday?
@ipayne18@KySportsRadio Ok. We just had McBride sign yesterday and also our team isn’t fully built yet. Lots of time to put together a few more pieces. I look forward to see what mark pope puts together and how they play as a team
@myradicalapathy@KySportsRadio Not at all what I said and you know that too. But sitting on information that Stokes had already signed with Kansas just because you aren’t an insider anymore and leaking his original decision forcing him to open his recruitment up again… that is what hurts the program
