Many people have wondered why I made a shift on my previous perception of Paul Kagame causing the crisis in Congo. I explained this issue clearly on a podcast in 2024; listen without emotions and learn:

1. I began to read and listen to the historical context of the causes of the Congo conflict from Julius Nyerere, Thabo Mbeki, Nelson Mandela, and AU mediation reports. And all exposed clearly that the blame lies with fully on Mobutu Seseseko and successive Congolese governments for trying to displace Banyamulenge-speaking people from their ancestral land in Eastern Congo to Rwanda where their ancestors came from before Leopold carved large chunks out of Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda to form Zaire or Congo.

2. I also went to Congo and Rwanda and learned the facts for myself by listening to both the Congolese people and the Rwandans alike, instead of only listening to the Congolese side as I had done before. With that, I realized that my previous narrative was driven by Belgian colonial propaganda designed to keep the brothers and sisters in that region divided by promoting tribalism and self-hate for the colonizer to benefit from their minerals while they fight each other.

Update on the siege of Uvira:

In a previous message below, I warned about the risk of a full-fledged war triggered by an eastward push by the FARDC to dislodge the AFC/M23 from Sange.

Recent discussions in Washington between DRC and Rwanda, under US facilitation have reinforced a growing perception among analysts in the Democratic Republic of Congo that the government in Kinshasa has gained momentum, and possibly external backing to escalate the conflict at all costs against the AFC/M23. Some, go as far as talking of removing leadership in Kigali.

Drone strikes have continued in recent days, targeting villages, killing civilians, and destroying livestock. An old man, was killed. His name is Diriyani Rudaga, 95 years old in Minembwe(Tutsi/Banyamulenge).

These developments point to a dangerous escalation with severe humanitarian consequences.

Key Drivers of Escalation

1. Burundi’s Strategic Involvement:

Burundi has deployed thousands of troops to North and South Kivu since 2022. Most are now concentrated in South Kivu along the Burundian border and in Uvira, DRC.

Burundi some say, is seeking to internationalize the conflict, potentially drawing in Rwanda and Tanzania, while also diverting attention from domestic economic and corruption challenges.

Kinshasa’s Military Objectives:

President Felix Tshisekedi has vowed to restore territorial integrity by expelling AFC/M23 and Twirwaneho forces. This strategy has relied on heavy drone strikes, affecting even civilians. A joint plan reportedly aims to retake key cities including Bukavu, Goma, and others. The war has already cost over $10 billion, with corruption allegations weakening the effort.

Regional Spillover Risks:

There are reports of collaboration between anti-Rwanda elements and FDLR.

A force of around 10,000 troops are assembled in Uvira(4,000 Burundians, 2,600 FDRLs, the rest a mix of FARDC, Wazalendu and a number of mercenaries). Military equipments includes rockets, drones, and armored vehicles, suggesting imminent offensive.

Who benefits from the war?

Some argue that regional actors benefit from mineral smuggling, especially gold. However, the deeper issue is the weakness of Congolese state, illustrated by the continued presence of multiple armed groups.

Political Outlook:

Without inclusive dialogue, peace efforts will fail. There are concerns that the war is sustained by both Burundi and DRC to delay elections in 2027, 2028 respectively.

Uvira is nearly encircled, to thwart drone attacks in Minembwe by AFC/M23 and other places.

Without a strict enforcement of a genuine cease fire by both parties, by also aligning security efforts in the region, regional economic integration, a bottom up reconciliation among congolese tied to a transparent justice for all, peace will remain a challenge.

Tshisekedi must face the ICC for the crimes his Wazalendo militias and army are committing.

Bintou Keita wanted to advance her agenda with President Tshisekedi to allow MONUSCO to continue exploiting minerals in Congo. However, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights couldn’t pass the fact that the FARDC and Wazalendo are killing and raping civilians.

The Wazalendo militia was created by President Tshisekedi.

Unrevealing President Ramaphosa's Gold and Diamond Thirst in Congo and How He Used the South African Army to Protect Minerals in Congo for His Friends in Kinshasa and His Inner Circle.

After the fall of Goma, where the South African army was defeated by M23, it was discovered that President Ramaphosa, along with a few individuals in the Ministry of Defence and the ANC, holds shares in a South African-based company called MPC.

This company was involved in smuggling gold, cassiterite, and diamonds from Congo for these high-ranking politicians. (There’s a fully investigative documentary about MPC’s smuggling activities in Congo) Later, they would distribute the shares among the Congolese President, a few generals, and elite politicians.

The profits from these activities were then sent from South Africa to banks in Geneva, specifically to Credit Suisse bank where these politicians have private accounts.

Ask yourself why South Africa, among all SADC countries, is the one deploying the most troops and why they are so keen on defending the Congolese regime that is killing its own people.

Additionally, the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ronald Lamola, has admitted that SANDF collaborated with the FDLR terrorists in Congo.

They will do anything to protect their gold interests in Congo.
