Hurricanes can unleash toxic chemicals from facilities through storm surge, wind damage and power loss.
I looked at this issue for @WBUR and found that most facilities in MA don't have backup power, a safeguard that can help prevent accidents.

📰📰 I'm very excited to say that next month I'll be starting at @BostonGlobe as a political reporter covering state and local politics. I'm looking forward to continuing to cover the crazy world of Massachusetts politics, including Beacon Hill and the 2026 elections. #mapoli
It's true. I'm heading off on a fabulous new adventure at @MSNBC. Beyond excited. And SO grateful to my @washingtonpost family for making me who I am. Rooting for you, my dear friends and colleagues, to keep shining a light, when our country needs you. Best - Carol
Mid press-scrum on the Ukraine-Russia peace talks today, about an hour after I found out I’d been laid off due to budget cuts at @WGBH and @TheWorld. We’re living through interesting times. Will miss covering it with some of the best people I’ve ever met.
This week’s TAIL OR FADE on @FDSportsbook I pick an o/u player prop, you apply a 50% profit boost token to either side in the tail or fade tab on the app.
Today’s pick: I’m going OVER 30.5 points for Jalen Brunson. I think he shows up in a big way. Tail or fade?
The discourse around Juan Soto in NY right now is crazy. Everything he does gets scrutinized. In a game where you fail 7 out of 10 times every failure is being held against him.
Everything he’s doing is under a microscope. Is he hustling? What does his body language mean? Should he have laid out for this ball?
Some of it is the NY media (loud radio guy screaming at him for walking too much). But a big part of it is the contract he signed. Placed a target on his back. Expectations are impossible to meet.
He did nothing wrong for the record. You want to hop around and chase the bag, that’s perfectly fine. Capitalism. America. The market dictates your worth. All that stuff .
But it feels like this is becoming a warning to players coming after him with these mega deals. The money is bigger and greener but the grass may not be.
Listen to Rumeysa Ozturk’s tearful friends describe “a sweet, caring soul” who throws interfaith dinner parties and organizes shifts at a homeless shelter. She’s now in an ICE cell in Louisiana; a bail hearing is underway
#FreeRumeysa
WBUR's @Patrick_Madden reports: For Ozturk's friends and teachers, her ongoing detention and absence from the Medford campus is personal and painful. https://t.co/mjb0HlRRkI
"I mean, do they want to dismantle public health?"
"We're really talking about deaths."
My latest for @NPR is an investigation into a new Louisiana health department policy to ban the promotion of life-saving vaccines.
Morning Mass! ☀️
Knowledge is power. The audit law takes effect today, according to the @SecretaryOfMass. While it’s Mr. Secretary’s right to verbally support legislative leaders’ fight for another 30 days & verbally agree w them that the courts decided this matter — our office encourages taxpayers to reflect upon written guidance from SOS, that aligns w the Constitution, stating verbatim that “the law takes effect..December 5, 2024”.
While we recognize & fully accept that some may view the law as ambiguous, this matter has NOT been decided by the courts according to written guidance from SOS, so we are pressing forward with a letter to legislators today, to re-engage on our audit —backed by the Constitution and SOS written guidance that reaffirms our position. #mapoli https://t.co/KPVaIGJ00r
Blue Ridge Public Radio is in the midst of a critical, two-day fund drive to support our coverage of Hurricane Helene and the massive recovery efforts in WNC. Even a one-time gift helps immensely. You can give to @BlueRidgePublic at this link — and thanks! https://t.co/q36yiVqt27

We audited DCF because we need to do better by our kids who’ve been traumatized and suffer from mental health issues. #mapoli

It just hit me: there are *TWO* reporters left at @wamu885, a station that covers a metropolitan area of 6 million people. That’s one-tenth the size the newsroom was two years ago, and the smallest it has been in two decades.
