It's true that these older women may not helping be themselves by a) being desperate and b) being seen as biologically of lesser value to commitment-seeking/family oriented men.

That being said, those commitment-seeking men are out there, but they are put off by the desperation these women emit. Their thinking being "does she even like me, or is she looking for a sperm donor?" In fact, at that point, the women who are desperate are thinking more about starting a family than finding a compatible partner or at least projecting that in their desperation.

Why would a man settle for that? Even if he is open to it. More than likely, any man with scruples will give her a wide berth. The unscrupulous would do what was described and use their desperation against them.

Anecdotally my sense is that such a woman must either be lucky to find a man who is as desperate as her to start a family, or parks her desperation in order to get to know someone without the agenda "impregnate me" pulsating in neon lights on her forehead.

Ultimately, though, for either side - the too desperate women or the unscrupulous cads taking them for a ride(!)- the tragedy here is that dating is no longer seen as a way to find someone who you can partner with and build something with (whatever that something looks like for you) but rather a means for one's selfish ends. (motherhood for the sake of motherhood or sexual gratification in these two cases)
