Very much want to be wrong about this, but I do not see this guy being anything other than what he has been to date as a major league manager, 715 games and .435 Winning %. Perhaps the @mets will get much better players and he will become their Joe Torre. Doubt it #lgm
@mets_coon When you make the playoffs every year for a decade and a half, win 3 World Series you can get away with mistakes. Plus he will probably end up back in LA.
If I’m following, Andy Green just had Nick Morabito attempt to sacrifice bunt with two strikes and nobody out with a runner in scoring position. 😬 #lgm
@WexlerRules@kelly_hertz To be clear I am not talking about his 2026 results. Assuming we are lucky to witness a 2027 season, he is going to have a chance to prove this was a fortuitous move, I want them to be right, I want to be wrong. I have just watched too much baseball and @mets baseball to feel it.
@WexlerRules@kelly_hertz I am just steadfastly saying, results do matter, especially when the majority of the chatter is about look how much this team improved to rise to mediocrity under him. He had very poor results, now he will have a chance to show that was in the past and reasons beyond is control.
@WexlerRules@kelly_hertz I am not putting words in your mouth it was a question. This is the problem with trying to ascertain a managers influence or lack of influence. Which is why undefinable unquantifiable elements end up doing the lifting, such as "he has the room", or "guys would run thru a wall".
@WexlerRules@kelly_hertz So essentially when players under perform, it is only on the players and when they over perform it is the managers doing? That team was competing through end of June and fell off a titanic cliff from July on. He has to bare some level of responsibility for that.
@WexlerRules@kelly_hertz Teams that can afford to tend to, look I am not looking to be right, I want to be wrong, but history is not on his side. The Mets time is now, they cannot fritter away a 3rd year of Soto's prime.
@WexlerRules@kelly_hertz Bochy & Baker are not particularly great counter examples, former won a division title in his 2nd season, pennant in his 4th. Latter had 103 wins out of the gate & had a division title by his 4th season (not including the 94 strike) Year 4 Green had a roster, team imploded.
@WexlerRules@kelly_hertz This is the problem with that. There was zero improvement and sure one could say that he’s learned from that. But there’s a reason guys who fail spectacularly almost never get a second chance. Bottom line, with all managers it’s the roster and performance. They are babysitters.
@WexlerRules@kelly_hertz To be truly fair, there are but 3 & in the expansion era there are only 2 examples of managers that failed as spectacularly out of the gate as Andy Green that went on to win a title. 1 had to go through 2 complete stints after his 1st face plant. Odds are not good.
@nachoo23kid@EddiePresti_@TalkinMetsNoG David Stearns has been running the @mets for 3 years and is already on his second manager. Any consistency issues are of his own failing.
I will be interested to hear what he has to say
What is evident is he has had a huge impact on the players in a short time
He had them showing up to play their asses off in what has been called a “meaningless” season
That’s a leader of men. Time will tell how it works out
@SNYtv In general logic this makes perfect sense, if the @mets didn’t have a DH option nor a whole they willingly made at 1B. The problem the Mets have now is the team is appreciably worse defensively in LF, offensively & defensively at 2B and 1B. And saved no $ in doing so. #lgm
